Don’t Mess with Octogenarians

Especially when they are wielding revolvers.  I would note that despite the Brady Campaign’s celebration of reasonable gun laws, they did everything they could to prevent people in DC from having the tools necessary to defend their homes.

Positive Coverage of Clubs in the News

One in Texas, which might be perhaps the oldest shooting club in the United States, and one in update New York.  Both are smallbore/airgun clubs, but hey, you can have a good time with both.  The Texas Club, New Braunfels Schuetzen Verein, has been in existence since 1849.  If they are indeed the oldest club, it’s interesting to ponder what effect immigration played in the 19th century in transforming the shooting culture, particularly in bringing European style shooting clubs to the United States.

It will be interesting to see the effect heavy Russian immigration has on the shooting culture here in the Philadelphia area, which has developed a very significant community of Russian and Eastern European shooters, both men and women.  I haven’t noticed them too much in the area club culture, but at the public ranges, Russian is a common language on the range in this area.

Law Abiding Gun Owner

In York County, Pennsylvania, we have an example of a concealed carry permit holder doing the right thing:

Instead, a man, Douglas Need, had been driving recklessly when he swerved in front of a car and was hit in the rear. In a fit of road rage, he stormed out of his car, went back to two young women and a baby in the car that hit his, reached through the driver’s window and started beating the driver very violently. She was able to break free and drive her car to the only place she could go — the parking lot next to the street. Need ran back to his car, squealed his tires into the parking lot and looked as though he was going to broadside the women’s car with them still inside.

Read the whole thing.  This time, the press covered it, because there was a body.  In most instances where attackers decide discretion is the better part of valor, no such coverage will be forthcoming.

Hat Tip: War on Guns

Robyn Ringler Sighting

Robyn ran one of the few anti-gun blogs out there.  But she got tired of the Reasoned Discourse and quit blogging.  Jacob found an interview with her by CSGV.  She said blogging:

… was one of the most disheartening experiences I’ve ever had. Most of the comments I received were so mean and lacking in compassion and empathy it was hard to believe people would write such things. Death threats were common. When I wrote about children dying from gun violence, responders wrote that inner city children were not really children, but rather thugs and monsters. Racism and prejudice seemed to motivate a lot of the comments.

I recall the comment section there, and I recall a lot of facts being brought forth to refute her emotionally driven nonsense.  I also don’t recall any racism in the suggestion that, yes, some children, particularly the ones that belong to gangs, are indeed monsters.

Big Bore AR Pistol

Shoots the .50 Beowulf.  The funny thing is, it would probably make a pretty good gun for shooting IHMSA big bore, if its barrel were just a little shorter.  That round would have no trouble knocking over the rams.  The only other problem is I suspect it’s probably heavier than IHMSA allows for.
