Ahab Gets it Right

On correcting stupid college kids:

You know, I actually believe that the pen is mightier than the sword…but the pen needs the sword as well.  You see, there are people who don’t like the pen, and they have lots of swords, so when they come to silence the pen you’re going to need a sword of your own.

Pretty much.   I wonder if people in Burma think the pen is mightier than the sword?   Or China for that matter.  Rights don’t mean a thing without the ability and will to protect them, violently if it comes to that.

PoG Safety Problems

I’d like to comment a bit on Jeff’s post here.  I’m with everyone else.  Submitted photos need to display safe gun handling.   Pictures with the guns pointed at a camera are still a no no.  Even though that can be done safely with a tripod and a timer, it still is still off putting, and is a threatning posture, which is not the image we want people walking away with.

I would go a step further and suggest that people submit normal photos.  I’m totally fine with reenactors dressing the part, because that’s part of what they do.  Just about all the photos on “People of the Gun” are just fine.  A few, I think, are a little weird, and we ought to try to avoid weird.

Remember, we want people to walk away with the impression that gun owners are normal; they are your neighbors, your friends, and people you run into every day.  The photos on that site should reflect that.

4AM and I Just Got Home

Impressions of the trip home:

  1. Flying sucks
  2. When traveling cross country with a connecting flight, fly early to account for delays
  3. Airports with free WiFi rock
  4. Philadelphia is a sewer, and the airport is the first indication of that which incoming travelers are exposed to.

That is all.  Posting tomorrow may be light, as I may be sitting at my desk at work completely zombified from the trip.

Flying Sucks

So, it seems that I will be delayed a good bit getting out of Reno.  Fortunately, their airport has free WiFi.  By some fortunate circumstance, my flight from Dallas to Philly is delayed by the same amount.   I will still make my connection, but I won’t be getting into Philly until hella late.

TSA check-in with the firearms went without a hitch.  The airline dude even had the unloaded firearms declaration out without me even saying anything.  Apparently booze counts as a flammable liquid if it’s over 80 proof.  That makes my Captain’s Spiced bottle fine for flying, but apparently 151 proof would be treated like gasoline.  I can understand that though.

Clearly Jadegold will use this as evidence of dangerous gun play by having my bottle of Captain Morgan in the same luggage hold as my rifle.  They could get quite a party going on in there.

Departing Shot

Getting ready to leave the hotel to head to the airport.  Here’s the view from the hotel room at Circus Circus that SayUncle and I stayed in:

Nevada is beautiful, but the dry weather and dust has made my sinuses and throat less than happy.  It’s been nice, but I’ll be happy to be home.

Ko-Tonics Commentary on 6.8 SCP Upper

Tim from Ko-Tonics had a good comment I feel like should be its own post:

I am glad you enjoyed our 6.8 SPC upper, and thanks for the kind words.

Just a brief comment about Linoge’s “it better be awesome at that price.”

1) Cheap blasting 6.8 SPC ammo can be had for $12-$13 per box if you look around. Silver State Armory will be coming out with such a round at the end of the calendar year.

2) 6.8 SPC will never be as cheap as .223. For what 6.8 SPC does, it’s much more comparable to .308 in terminal ballistics and all-around usefulness. 6.8 SPC is FAR more lethal than .223. You get what you pay for.

3) The beauty of the AR-15 system is that you don’t need a whole new rifle to get into 6.8 SPC, you just neeed an upper, bolt and magazine. Your current .223/5.56 NATO AR-15 lower will work just fine, with no modifications of any kind. When you want to do some blasting, just put your .223 upper back on.

4) 6.8 SPC is an OUTSTANDING hunting cartridge for deer, hogs, or any other critter weighing less than 400 pounds.

I have a FAQ on 6.8 SPC, as well as a 6.8 SPC hunting page, on our www.ko-tonics.com Web site, point your browser over there if you’d like more info.

Again, thanks for all the nice comments.

I was indeed awesome. Thanks Tim! I can’t wait to show it off to all my shooting buddies back home.
