So much so they are protesting. The sad thing is, this was entirely predictable, based on the positions Obama took during the campaign. What do gays really have left to get from the political process? Gay marriage is just about it, and the coalition just isn’t there for that right now. I’m also not surprised that Obama, who is forcing the Pentagon to accept deep budget cuts, while continuing to fight two wars, isn’t willing to further antagonize the military establishment by changing Clinton’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy towards homosexuality. But other than those two things, what really is there?

Quote of the Day
From Eric of Classical Values:
But here’s my problem: I am sick to death of this creepy feeling that I can’t talk about socialism without sounding like a kook.
He presents this in a greater story about how the word socialist has been tainted by the tendency of those on the right to use is to beat their opponents, no matter how undeserving or ill fitting. I feel the same way he does. You can’t say that nationalizing the American auto industry is “socialism,” when that’s exactly what it is, without associating yourself with overblown rhetoric.
Chris Christie Wins GOP Nod
Looks like it will be Chris Christie going up against Corzine in November, after defeating Steve Lonegan in the GOP primary, though some are speculating Richard Codey will be the real Democrat in the race.  It wouldn’t be first time the Democrats did the old switcheroo in the face of certain defeat. Oh well, at least they won’t need to get a crack paleontological team to find Codey.
UPDATE: 78% reporting, so far, 55% Christie, 42% Lonegan, 3% for Merkt.
Dick Cheney, That Right Wing Bastard!
I’m going to guess Dick Cheney is done with politics, since coming out in favor of gay marriage isn’t exactly popular even in leftist strongholds like California. I agree with Cheney on this, and think it’s a good discussion to be having within the conservative movement. I’m glad he talked about it in public. While I don’t support judicially imposed gay marriage, I join with Cheney in thinking it would be fine to have some form of union recognized by the government.
But here’s a question I have for gays who supported Obama.  Why? Having some form of civil marriage is really the only obstacle these days to gay equality, at least in terms of government, and both Obama and his Vice President are against the idea. What has Obama done for the gay community?  Other than turn out a lot of people who voted in favor of Prop 8 in California.
New Jersey GOP Primary Underway
Polls are open in the Garden State.  As Jim Geraghty point out, if you’re not affiliated with any party, you can register with the GOP and vote today. I don’t have a dog in this fight. You can count me in the ABC (Anybody But Corzine) camp. If polling is to be believed, Chris Christie has to best chance of defeating the incumbent governor.
Brady Suit in Pittsburgh
They are asking the Court of Common Pleas judge to throw the NRA case out:
“We are asking the court today to put a stop to the NRA’s lawsuit that threatens a common-sense gun law that helps protect Pittsburgh communities from gun violence,†said Brady Center Senior Attorney Daniel Vice. “We are hopeful that the court will throw out the NRA’s lawsuit and allow Pittsburgh to proceed with its efforts to stop gun trafficking and save lives.â€
They seem to be arguing that the case isn’t ripe. Basically a ripeness argument is, because no one has been charged under the ordinance yet, that NRA has no standing to file suit. Lost and Stolen still stands in Philadelphia, because of the same issue, so it would not be out of the realm of possibility of the Brady argument prevails here.
All Your Cars …
An apt use of a cliche, I think.
Such a Nice Guy
Campaign Spot is reporting that John Corzine is kicking some polling places out of their normal place so he can kickoff his campaign with Joe Biden.  This being during the GOP primary, of course. Stay classy Governor, stay classy.
Jersey Gun Sales Up
You know when the political and economic climate are bad enough for people in New Jersey to start the process of trying to buy more guns, things aren’t good. But they are definitely buying, and it looks like another South Jersey shop is out of ammo. (Although they only mention being out of .380 & .32, perhaps they have some other calibers in stock. It might be worth checking out.)
Stupid Party Indeed
Apparently Facebook worked to get the Republican Party on board with using their site for their 2008 election efforts, and there was no interest.
