Heeding God’s Call Protest Gun Shop This Weekend

They are protesting the Shooter’s Shop this weekend. I’m told an NRA alert is going out about it:

Various anti-gun organizations have mounted an offensive to harass legitimate firearms dealers across the Keystone State.

One of these groups, Heeding God’s Call, will be holding a rally tomorrow in front of The Shooter Shop in Philadelphia between 12 noon and 1 p.m.

Please attend a silent vigil of support for legitimate firearm dealers who are under mounting harassment by this anti-gun organization. Show your colors and proudly display your American flag.

The Shooter Shop is located at 2001 E. Allegheny Ave. in Philadelphia (on the corner of E. Allegheny and Emerald Streets).  It is two blocks east of the Allegheny stop on SEPTA’s Market/Frankford el/subway line.

Be advised that Shooter’s Shop is located in a dicey neighborhood. You should have no problem in daylight, and I doubt the local neighborhood folks are going to mess with a bunch of NRA members, but carry your gun with you, do not leave it unattended in a vehicle if you go where someone could break into your car and steal it!

Pretending Gun Control Doesn’t Exist

It would seem like the organizers of the London Olympics want to pretend as though gun control doesn’t exist. I noticed that their page on Shooting has a “Get Involved” section that pretends shooters don’t have to leave the country to practice.

Shooting is a fun way to learn discipline and responsibility. In the UK, more than 350,000 people currently practice the sport, with equal numbers of boys and girls entering competitions.

If you want to get involved, British Shooting is a good place to start.

As with many sports, there are schemes to encourage young people to reach a high level.

Find details of all the Shooting clubs and facilities in your local area in the ‘related websites’ section.

It’s just so casual, like British shooters haven’t been effectively ostracized by society and the UK sporting world. Let’s just pretend like there’s a local gun range where you can pick up any gun to shoot so conveniently for every British youngster! It’s almost as if they choose not to mention that the only reason the world’s shooters are even allowed to compete in the London Olympics is by special exemption and that these athletes will have to go abroad to even practice.

But there is one thing that stands out to this description of how to get involved in the sport. There’s a justification for why people would even want to consider involvement. There’s no list of reasons why people want to play handball or go swimming. It’s as if they feel the need to make excuses for why shooters are even being listed as athletes.

NRA Lays off Obama at CPAC

It’s interesting that NRA had to go on the warpath against…. Bill Clinton at CPAC. The fact of the matter is there just hasn’t been all that much Obama has done to us, save nominating Sotomayor and Holder:

“If you think that’s all ancient history, I’m going to tell you it’s still going on today,” LaPierre said, before cutting to a clip not of President Barack Obama but of Pennsylvania Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell.

I hate to say it, but at this point, I think even I’d suggest that Rendell is a bigger threat to gun rights than Obama, though Obama remains a larger potential threat. Rendell has been actively undermining the lock we have on Pennsylvania, and if that lock is broken it won’t bode well for the rest of the country. Pennsylvania has one of the highest percentages of NRA membership of any state. If they can break us, none of you are safe.

Radnor Tabling Lost and Stolen?

So says the President of the Board of Commissioners in Radnor Township:

Bob, just to let you know, due to a clerical error the Lost and Stolen ordinance has been legally advertised as being on the upcoming agenda for Feb 22. This was wrong. As a result the agenda will list the ordinance BUT it will immediately be tabled. I do not want a bunch of folks coming to the meeting who would normally not attend. I give you my personal word that this will not be voted on at the upcoming meeting.

Don’t take his word for it. The residents who showed up at the hearing should show up on the 22nd regardless. There’s probably no need to make a huge presence, but they should know we’re paying attention to this issue and aren’t willing to be played as fools. I’m not saying it won’t be tabled, but I wouldn’t trust the word of a politician.

Right to Bear Arms by Minors

The ruling from Washington State Supreme Court yesterday which recognized the Second Amendment as incorporated, shows some promise when it comes to the Right to Keep and Bear Arms as applied to minors. It would seem to me that it’s correct to say minors can’t be outright prohibited from possessing arms, but that states may require adult supervision of the possession.

Bill O’Reilly More Anti-Gun Than Obama?

Not really a surprise really. Bill O’Reilly is strongly anti-gun, as Instapundit finds here, even more so than Barack Obama. O’Reilly has said radically anti-gun things before, so this certainly isn’t the first time. It’s one of the reasons I don’t watch Bill O’Reilly. The other reason is that Bill O’Reilly is a class A bozo. Bill O’Reilly makes me want to shoot my television if I see him on it. No other cable news talking head makes me feel that way, save maybe Olbermann. Glenn Beck I can take or leave (mostly leave, I tend to find he’s a bit of a drama queen). But in the sphere of pure loathing, O’Reilly takes the cake. I still remember him calling Dave Kopel a secular progressive.

More Hysterics

This time from the Washington Post, because Virginia is considering lifting its gun rationing law. They tell us to “get ready for mayhem” and say:

We hope reason prevails, and the state Senate kills the repeal. Because if Mr. Lingamfelter’s bill is enacted, here’s what police and prosecutors expect: Crack dealers in New York will pay 21-year-olds with no criminal records to buy dozens of Glock pistols at Virginia gun shops.

And to top it all off, we link to the queen of screaming, raving, mad hysterics, Abby Spangler.

Unbelievable Article in the Philly Inquirer

One of the sad facts, as we approach the day that the ban on firearms in National Parks expires, is that we have to listen to the hysterical machinations of the media. I’ve seen some bad ones, but this one from the Philadelphia Inquirer takes the cake:

Whatever the gun rights of law-abiding park visitors, having loaded firearms in the national parks certainly will change the experience for everyone.

Every day could seem like the start of deer hunting season with people strolling the parks armed. That has to be a frightening prospect for families and others who aren’t accustomed to being around guns. And there’s also the risk of accidental shootings.

Like the start of deer season? Because we’re just going to shoot our guns all over eh? Does the Inquirer staff not wonder why this isn’t a problem in state parks, where people can legally carry guns, and have been able to for a few years now? How many times do they have to make dire predictions, only to have them turn out to be gravely wrong? I think this more than anything has destroyed the credibility of the gun control movement in the eyes of the public.

Swarthmore Considering L&S

Now Swarthmore is considering this useless measure:

“This is a pro-cop measure, as those are the people who very often have to face illegal guns. This nationwide group with a strong presence is united in a common effort and has support of locally and beyond,” Lowe said.

That’s Mayor Richard Lowe, who is a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Even if you accept that local municipalities can be “Laboratories of Democracy,” shouldn’t the fact that no one can name a single prosecution under this law prove that it’s a worthless, feel-good measure? At least, even in very liberal Swarthmore, we had at least one person show up in opposition. If you’re opposed to this, and live in the area, be sure to let them know.

Open Carry Deters Armed Robbers

People have always argued that openly armed individuals are a deterrent against crime, this case from Kennesaw Georgia would seem to bear that out. My opinion is that open carry would likely deter most armed robbers, who are more interested in cash than killing. Seriously violent individuals might just shoot first, but I believe those kinds of folks are a minority.
