“Your group” is full of morbidly obese, chain smoking, lower economic, disenfranchised people who just look plain miserable. Gun lobbying is giving them a target for the anger and despair in their govt.
RTWT. I could stand to lose a 20 or 30 pounds, but I’m not morbidly obese. I don’t smoke. I’m on the upper end of the curve for household income, and I’m decidedly not angry. If we look pissed off, it’s because people like this just won’t leave us the hell alone. Leaving us along is all we ask. It’s pretty easy. If you enjoy life, enjoy it, and stop trying to interfere with our enjoyment.
The New Republic says the NRA is at the end of its rope, and facing something it’s never faced before; a real gun control movement. Well, I guess that depends on what your definition of “real” is. We’ve seen plenty of astroturf from the other side, and more than a fair share of emotional blackmail, shaming, and condescension. But a real grassroots gun control movement? It doesn’t exist, and has never existed. Additionally, as Astroturfers-in-Cheifs go, Bloomberg is a great villain. No doubt, Bloomberg is a threat, but the level of threat he represents is entirely dependent on us. If we keep our grassroots game going, i.e. don’t fall back asleep, we can sweep him aside. This is Bagdad Bob level nonsense. NRA is bigger than it’s ever been, and we’re looking around at what the other Friends Committees are raising in disbelief. NRA at it’s end? Hardly.
I’m not too surprised by this:Â A GOP strategist is behind some of the Bloomberg ads. My guess is that some in the GOP establishment see this as an opportunity to weaken some key Democrats with their base. I think this strategist makes the mistake of believing there’s a strong movement for gun control among southern Democrats. I think this will tend to help Pryor rather than hurting him, and even Toomey is going to have base troubles because of the deal he made with Manchin. There are still Republicans out there that still think gun control can be a winner.
It’s primary day in Pennsylvania for most municipal elections, and it’s a great day to vote. Here is a partial list of MAIG mayors who may be on the ballot this year. It was written before filing deadlines, so a few of those mayors may have decided to retire. However, most have not.
After today, results will be more official, so it’s a great time to contact opposition to those MAIG mayors with serious challengers. There’s no reason to wait until 2014 to send the gun grabbers a message.
**Please excuse the post with relatively little detail about key races. I meant to do a better post on this topic yesterday, but the afternoon was largely spent watching KFOR in Oklahoma City online and helping spread word related to the statewide storms. My hometown was under a tornado warning for hours yesterday with multiple rotation areas detected throughout the day. Yet, through social media, folks were trying to get word out that the tornado sirens weren’t working for some reason.
Watching the live coverage had multiple veteran reporters losing the battle of tears on camera. There aren’t many places in the country where reporters will put down the cameras and join in the urgent searches, and yet that appears to be what happened in several cases when citizens were stepping up in areas where first responders couldn’t get quickly enough.
Someone sent me this article that the Mayor of Omaha, Nebraska, a MAIG mayor, has been defeated. Any defeat of a Bloomberg Mayor is good news, but the question is whether his involvement was a factor in the election, and whether the new Mayor of Omaha, Jean Stothert, won’t also be joining. Targeting MAIG mayors would actually be somewhat easy, since a lot of these small town elections can be swung by only a handful of votes. Unfortunately, while a lot of our folks know the villain Bloomberg well, they don’t pay close attention to what their mayors are doing when it comes to guns. Does your town have a MAIG mayor? If so, you and a handful of friends may be enough to sway the election.
The gun control groups are already all over this story out of St. Petersburg Florida, where someone ND’d inside a local Starbucks. The anti-gun groups have twice tried to push Starbucks to change their policy, but Starbucks has maintained their policy of following state law on the matter. Regardless of that, however, I believe the mall is a gun free zone. I can find other evidence online that other malls owned by the same company are posted. I’m not sure what Florida law is on this matter, but it is not abundantly clear the gun was being carried legally yet.
Beck does not have a concealed weapons permit, but says she never intended to carry the gun in the first place.
Of course, I agree with the reader who pasted this URL into the comments that it won’t matter to those who will try to get on this hobby horse and see how far it can be ridden.

Guess who guns are good enough to protect at a peace rally? If you answered Former Governor Rendell, you’d be correct.
I’m particularly proud of catching Rendell’s bodyguard’s poorly concealed sidearm. Good enough for the former Governor, but not good enough for your family? And at a peace rally too? Tsk tsk. I did manage to get some video, despite the pouring rain. First, the invasion of Pennsylvania by the gun control crowd:

The gun control people outnumbered us, but not by a whole lot, especially once the rain started. That’s dedication for you. I’d estimate we had about 100 people, and they had maybe 200. They seem to have lost a lot of the marchers between the bridge and the park. It’s always hard to tell because a crowd marching will always look bigger than when you compress it. Despite all the folks walking around with openly carried and concealed firearms at a peace protest, somehow it managed to remain peaceful. Hardly a surprise to me, but as one women who spoke to the rally said “She was kind of scared, but not too scared to speak out.” She really had nothing to be fearful of.
