Apparently he had an expired Florida license. I’m guessing he didn’t realize that wasn’t good in New York and New Jersey. Either way, he’ll be a convicted felon after this. Burress probably could have gotten a NYC carry license, since those are generally available to celebrities who can hire attorneys to help them navigate the process. New Jersey is a bit more fair, in that you generally have to be politically connected to get one — mere celebrity status is not sufficient.

Thoughts on Mumbai
From The Newbie Shooter, and brings it around to our society here at home.
Knife Control in New Hampshire?
A town there worries that sharp pointy things being sold might tarnish their family friendly image. And no doubt scare the Massachusetts folks who come there to spend money too.
The Spin
Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence reports that the NRA is a paper tiger:
Obama proved you can talk about having reasonable regulation of firearms without fear of a backlash at the ballot box. The fact of the matter is that Obama is where most Americans are on the gun issue, which is supporting a person’s ability to own a firearm while also supporting policies like criminal background checks on all gun sales.
Voters are tired of hearing the same old rhetoric from the NRA, and the election results proved that its bark is worse than its bite.
And it’s worth noting that Obama ran from groups like ICAHV as fast as he could once he secured the nomination. Gun control was simply not an issue in this election, and that plays against the NRA as much as it plays against gun control groups.
Coincidence?
The Brady Campaign issues this press release, and then this editorial magically appears, and calls for ending private transfers under the guise of “gun show loophole.” The Brady’s play the media game much better than NRA does, I’m sorry to say. Of course, it certainly helps that there are so many in the media sympathetic to their cause, and repulsed by ours.
Blue Trail Under Fire
The Courant is demanding BlueTrail be closed:
Mr. Lyman’s negligence should no longer be permitted to jeopardize the safety of families in Durham and hikers who use a popular trail just beyond the range. That state and local officials have tacitly allowed Mr. Lyman to mismanage Blue Trail for so long is an inexcusable dereliction of duty.
They are asking for Letters to the Editor. If you live in the area, or shoot at Blue Trail, I’d come up with something, 200 words or less, to at least let them know this is not a one-sided debate. One thing I’d point out is that no houses have been hit since Blue Trail finished their range improvements.
H-S Precision Hoping It Would Go Away?
I’m guessing H-S Precision was hoping this issue would just go away over the long weekend — we’d all stuff ourselves with Turkey, eat pumpkin pie, drink, and forget all about the fact that they have a product endorsement from a federal agent who narrowly avoided prosecution for murdering a woman. Well, today’s Shooting Wire:
It seems, however, H-S Precision has missed the mark – badly – in their choice of endorsements.
On the back cover of their latest catalog is what appears to be a rather innocuous recommendation of H-S products by a mid-level FBI bureaucrat. But the letter is evoking strong responses by some outraged shooters.
Some watershed moments in American history evoke strong emotions. 9/11 can represent either the moment of perfect evil visited on America or the resiliency of the American spirit.
Others have no positive redeeming quality. One of those is Ruby Ridge.
Read the whole thing. It’s not going away. Will we hear anything from them? Or are they hoping this still blows over?
Voting is Open
Voting is open for the H-S Precision photoshop contest. Go vote for your favorite one. Polling closes at 10PM.
The H-S Precision Photoshop Contest
So far we will be voting on the following entries. I have made no effort to edit out any entries for being too graphic, given that unlawfully shooting someone through a door isn’t exactly a civilized act. Even worse is evading prosecution.
What you see is what was submitted, so if there’s something not there that you have, let me know. I will leave this up until morning, then I’ll switch on voting in the morning. By the end of the day, we’ll take the results and declare a winner:
I have numbered them so folks judge them by the quality of the satire, and the photoshop work. Though, yeah, you could always go back through comments and figure out who they belong to. Voting opens at 10:00AM tomorrow and closes at 10PM tomorrow. The winner gets a MidwayUSA Gift Certificate for $25.
UPDATE: Disabling comments as to not bias results.

Gun Blog Rifle League Summer Match Results
I finally got them compiled and posted. Be sure to let me know if I forgot to include anyone’s entry. It’s quite possible I did, considering I did this in pieces. Also check for mistakes. Congratulations to the match winners:
- Centerfire (Iron Sights): AughtSix
- Centerfire (Scoped): BillH
- Smallbore (Iron Sights):Â AughtSix
- Smallbore (Scoped): BillH
And thanks for participating to Armed Citizen, Leadchucker, Danno, Sailorcurt, and Mike Gallo. Sorry it took so long to get the results posted, but time was in short supply this fall. The combined Fall/Winter match will be posted shortly, and will be a Kalashnikov/SKS match. In addition, I’m going to bring the smallbore match in to 25 yards so that people may shoot it indoors. I am considering eliminating the scope class for this match since everyone seems to be shooting iron sights.
UPDATE: Forgot AughtSix’s smallbore results, which made him the match winner.
