Kathleen Kane Already Sticking it LTC Holders
She’s already signed on to a letter to the Senate leadership expressing opposition to the National Reciprocity Bill, while I’m sure she’s champing at the bit to be able to recind our own reciprocity agreements.
Pennsylvania is on its way to no longer being a pro-gun state. It’s only been kept that way by the hard work of a lot of people over the years. We’ve long depended on the blue dog Democrat to keep their own party in line. Blue dogs are now critically endangered, even in Pennsylvania. The hard left is taking control of the Democratic Party, and they are still winning elections.
A Gift to the Birthers
Oh, the joys of Pennsylvania politics already picking up steam so soon after the election:
Ok, Birthers, listen up: You now have a Democrat seeking high office who admits to being born in Kenya.
As far as we know he’s not Muslim or a socialist, but he is, as of Wednesday, running to unseat Republican Gov. Corbett in 2014.
Interestingly, he can’t use the office as a stepping stone to be president since he wasn’t just born in Kenya to American parents. He was born to British parents and only became a US citizen in 1977.
How to Win Elections: Don’t be a Stupid Dick
Jim Geraghty has an excellent prescription for the conservative movement, and one I can’t endorse heartily enough. When your opponents best strategy is to paint you as out of touch, nasty, angry dicks, it helps to not be out of touch, nasty, angry dicks. I think a big problem on the right is there’s way too many people who cash in on that kind of thing, and who have a vested interest in perpetuating it.
The GOP also needs a way to appeal to younger voters. Many younger voters believe the current copyright regime is outdated and backwards. Why the GOP embraces the same policy as the Democrats on issues like copyright and intellectual property is beyond me. There would be no political cost embracing the issue and everything to go gain. Because it seemingly makes such a strong strategic case for the GOP, it should be no surprise they want nothing to do with the idea.
Online Civil Liberties
Leahy’s rewritten bill would allow more than 22 agencies — including the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Federal Communications Commission — to access Americans’ e-mail, Google Docs files, Facebook wall posts, and Twitter direct messages without a search warrant. It also would give the FBI and Homeland Security more authority, in some circumstances, to gain full access to Internet accounts without notifying either the owner or a judge.

Entry Into 2014 Guv Race
John Hanger seems to be hanging his name out there. I know nothing about his record on the topic of this blog, but as a former Rendell Administration official, I am not terribly optimistic. Pennsylvania has a long and strong tradition of pro-2A Democrats, but from where I sit they are quickly becoming an endangered species. Given Corbett’s weakness, with low approval ratings, we need to keep a close eye on the Democratic field.
Training: It’s What’s For Dinner
Philadelphia Daily News reporter William Bender has yet another example of the Philadelphia Police not being properly trained in what the law is, as they harass yet another person open carrying legally. After the Fiorino settlement, the PPD promised to step up training for its officers on the carry laws in Pennsylvania. Apparently whatever they are doing isn’t enough to help. Is it going to take a big civil rights judgement to finally fix this?
