Fast Eddie Still Fast

The Governor is still barreling down the PA Turnpike like a bat out of hell:

It found one instance on a Sunday morning when his car averaged an estimated 99 mph traveling between the New Stanton and Warrendale interchanges of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

His trip speeds between the Harrisburg East and Valley Forge exits, the stretch of the toll road he uses most often, have estimated speeds ranging between 48 and 93 mph.

This has been an issue before.  Glad to see the problem has been corrected.  I hope he at least wears his seatbelt.

Luksik to Enter GOP Senate Primary

I wish she would have stayed out.  Toomey is the best chance to get rid of Arlen in the primary.  Specter barely eeked by Toomey in 2004, and I think this time he could be in real trouble.  But if the Specter hating GOP vote is split between two candidates, it can only help Arlen win his primary.

Imagine Bush Doing This

Obama sent a letter to Jacques Chirac telling him how much he’s looking forward to working with him.  Problem?  Jacques Chirac is no longer President of France.  What would the media reaction be if Bush did this?

UPDATE: Missing context

Hey Mayor Nutter

If you’re looking to balance the city’s budget on the back of the City’s police officers, why don’t you take a look at your narcotics division and start looking to make cuts there.  I have no patience for this kind of crap.  Nothing undermines the rule of law more than when police pretend they are not subject to it themselves.

It’s equally outrageous that the city is taking the position that small ziplock bags are drug paraphernalia.  That the city’s narcotics unit is even wasting time on this small time crap is nuts, to say the least.  But hey, I suppose shop owners don’t shoot at the police, unlike the real bad guys.

If the state has any sense at all it’ll change its drug paraphenelia laws to deal with this.  Selling plastic bags should not, in any sane system of justice, be a crime.

Animal Husbandry

Apparently Florida was trying to make bestiality illegal (because it apparently wasn’t already).  This is a priceless example of how stupid politicians can be:

This irreplaceable moment came during a debate to outlaw bestiality in Florida, which appears to be perfectly legal at the current time. When an exception for animal husbandry was raised, State Senator Bullard was alarmed: “People are taking these animals as their husbands? What’s husbandry?”

I wasn’t exactly raised a farm boy, but even I know what animal husbandry is.  What’s scary is that apparently this State Senator is vice chair of the Agriculture Committee.  God help farmers in Florida with this kind of leadership!

A Good Pennsylvania Politics Blog

I’m pretty impressed by Capitol Ideas, which is run by The Allentown Morning Call state house reporter, John L. Micek.  Micek doesn’t pull any punches, and Democrat or Republican is no matter.  It’s equal opportunity criticism.  Check out this recent post on an effort by state Democrats to promote phony journalism.  Good stuff.  To me, this is what political journalism is supposed to be about; holding those who hold the public trust to account.

Obama Defunds Armed Pilots Program

If we get hit with another terrorist attack against planes, it’s on you Barack.  It’s on you:

After the September 11 attacks, commercial airline pilots were allowed to carry guns if they completed a federal-safety program. No longer would unarmed pilots be defenseless as remorseless hijackers seized control of aircraft and rammed them into buildings.

Now President Obama is quietly ending the federal firearms program, risking public safety on airlines in the name of an anti-gun ideology.

The Obama administration this past week diverted some $2 million from the pilot training program to hire more supervisory staff, who will engage in field inspections of pilots.

Asshole.

Unions Wooing Specter on Card Check

Looks like they are pulling out all the stops:

Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President William M. George said he pledged Mr. Specter “all kinds of help from the union” in a series of meetings to woo the Republican senator’s support for the bill, which would ease rules favoring secret-ballot elections to unionize workplaces.

“We are pushing to give him help in the primary, including changing Democrats to Republicans for the primary,” Mr. George told The Times. “It’s hard to do because of other races in the state … but we’ll do it for ‘card check.’ “

I don’t think they can honestly deliver on their promises.  Clearly Specter must think that, or there wouldn’t be talk of him switching parties if the state refuses to open up its primary system.  I hope he does it, to be honest.  Republicans have endured this abusive relationship with Specter far too long.

I Guess She No Longer Wants My Pie

Michelle Obama told us, in the days before her husband’s campaign took her out of the spotlight, that she wanted a piece of our pie.  Well, it seems we no longer have to worry.  Seems the biggest problem we face with people who frequent soup kitchens these days is that they aren’t eating enough healthy organic fruit.

What Lengths They Will Go To

It’s amazing what lengths the elite in Philadelphia will go through in order to justify turning the city into a low level prison for everyone, rather than identifying and locking up the people causing the trouble.  Hell, not even identifying.  We know who they are.  It’s just a matter of having the will to put them in prison and keep them there.

Banning certain types of alcohol sales has been a pet project of a lot of politicians in the City of Philadelphia for a while now.  In fact, back when I first got started, I pissed of City Councilmember Jim Kenney by accusing him of soft racism in trying to ban malt liquor ads from SEPTA buses.  Now I guess they will have an academic paper to back up the assertion that certain types of people just can’t handle alcohol, and have to have it taken away from them.
