Restaurant Carry a Reality in TN

The Tenneessee Senate has overriden the Governor’s veto, which makes me wonder what the Governor thought he had to gain?Â Where are the folks cheering Governor Breseden’s “common sense?”Â In fact, given that there were more votes for the override, it seems to me the Governor is losing friends.

When we were on our way down to Texas a few years ago, we stopped in to meet with SayUncle and the Instafamily at a local eatery.Â Had to leave the guns in the car, even though neither of us had anything to drink.Â Now, where do you think a gun is more likely to cause trouble: on the person who carries it, or in a glove box where someone could steal it?

Gays Growing Impatient with Chosen One

So much so they are protesting.Â The sad thing is, this was entirely predictable, based on the positions Obama took during the campaign.Â What do gays really have left to get from the political process?Â Gay marriage is just about it, and the coalition just isn’t there for that right now.Â I’m also not surprised that Obama, who is forcing the Pentagon to accept deep budget cuts, while continuing to fight two wars, isn’t willing to further antagonize the military establishment by changing Clinton’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy towards homosexuality.Â But other than those two things, what really is there?

Campus Carry Reform Passed in South Carolina

People with concealed carry licenses will be permitted to carry in vehicles on school and college campuses.Â Not quite campus carry, but some progress.

No Sporting Use

Joe Huffman takes on a notion, promoted by the former Attorney General of Maryland, that handguns have no sporting use.Â This Sunday is our monthly IHMSA match, which I suppose doesn’t qualify as a sport in the mind of Joseph Curran.

Vandalism

Via Caleb, who compares and contrasts pro-and anti-gun forces, looks like a local shooting range in Georgia was vandalized by anti-gun folks.Â I should not that this is the first I’ve heard of this kind of thing.Â If I were the Brady Campaign, my first thought would be that this kind of thing is the last thing we need, but I would also have to admit that at least someone out there has some passion for the cause.Â In order to have the problem of having your grass roots do things that embarrass you, first you need to have grass roots!

Veto Override on Restaurant Bill in TN

I’m hearing word that the veto override of the restaurant carry bill passed the TN house 69-27. It now goes on to the Senate.

UPDATE: Looks like they are setting up Bredesen on the whole “alcohol and guns do not mix” by sending him the same bill, only exempting police officers while off duty.Â Presumably the officers also would not be permitted to consume alcohol, while off duty and armed, right?Â Â Let’s see if the powers that be think some people are more equal than others.

Microstamping in New York

Jacob reports that it’s making progress.Â NRA would appear to be robocalling New York members to get them to oppose the bill.Â Meanwhile, Reasoned Discourse continues.
