ATF Enforcement in Philadelphia

Looking over this very interesting post on ATF enforcement patterns at SayUncle, it would seem the City of Philadelphia refers a great number of cases over to federal prosecutors for violations of federal gun laws.  The feds took only 238 of the 1578 cases that were referred to them.  The top reason for our district was “Minimal federal interest, or no deterrent value.”

So if the feds aren’t using the laws to go after actual violent criminals, but are using the law to go after people like Wayne Fincher, David Olafson, and various other folks who are no threat to polite society, what use are they really in terms of public safety?  What is the “federal interest” in sending hobbyists to federal prison, but not violent felons?

New Jersey Gun Ban Passes Committee

By a vote to 5 to 1, the sweeping gun ban has passed out of the New Jersey Assembly judiciary committee.  For those of you interested, here’s a list of the guns that are banned under this bill.  But oh no, they aren’t out to ban hunting guns.  No sir!  It’s meant to target criminals, not collectors and sportsmen.  You know, like criminals who use the Brown Bess as their firearms of choice, and who use Thompson Center Deer Hunter.  What’s even more disgusting is there’s politicians out there who buy this nonsense hook, like, and sinker.  And even worse are the ones who know this is crap, but do it anyway, because, well, who gives a crap about the constitution, and sportsmen.  Wake up New Jersey, you’re losing your liberty.  It’s time to take action.

See the firearms below that will be banned if this is signed into law (Source is Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs):

International Gun Control Effort at UN

No good can possibly come of this.  Someone remind me again why we are spending good tax dollars to have these unaccountable international bureaucrats occupy some of the most valuable real-estate in the country?

Collective Punishment in Seattle Update

Random Nuclear Strikes has an update to the crap that is happening in Seattle.  It looks like it will affect more than just city employees:

As it currently stands, it looks as though the EO will direct all city employees to demand that people legally carrying their concealed pistols on all city property to leave the property immediately. If the legally carrying person does not leave immediately, they will be charged by the City of Seattle with trespassing. It is a nice little dodge around the pre-emptive state laws, though it makes me sick to my stomach.

Well, if it’s concealed, they won’t exactly know will they?  It should be easy enough to challenge this in court.  It looks like more and more cities are considering state law on the matter of firearms regulation to be optional.

Will of the People

We’re constantly told that gun control in Philadelphia is the “will of the people,” which the state should not be interfering with.  I doubt you’ll find any disagreement on that matter from gun control advocates.  The Brady Campaign has used that argument to defend the DC gun ban.   Of course, you have to wonder where they’ll stand when it comes to the will of the people here.  I’m guessing their position will be that particular will has to be squashed, since it doesn’t fit with their agenda.

Update on Wilkes-Barre Incident

Looks like this case I mentioned the other day was another case of the police seizing a gun because it wasn’t in the state police registry record of sale.  Getting rid of that registry needs to be a top priority of firearms owners in this state.
