Tam alerts us to an gun store and range, Tactical Firearms, in Katy, Texas who is perfectly willing to throw your freedom under the bus to make a buck at the expense of his online competitors. With friends like this, who needs enemies?

Thirdpower has the details. Apparently it’ll ban Glock pistols, and you’ll be required to register all your magazines over 10 rounds. One wonders how the mechanics of that work, given they don’t stamp serial numbers on magazines. Either way, Governor Quinn said in his statement vetoing important pro-gun legislation regarding ammunition:

I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution– the right to bear arms.

The last refuge of scoundrels, is that statement. They’re all supporters of the Second Amendment in their own minds. Even Bloomberg. Theyare no such thing. Not when banning Glocks and numerous common shotguns. I’d note, because of this, it would also ban the Beretta 92. Not to mention all the jobs that will be cost downstate when companies like Armalite are forced to leave the state. Don’t you love how these bills also have language that just happens, you know, to ban hundreds of commonly owned firearms no one in their right mind has ever considered assault weapons? You’d almost think the assault weapons issue was just a ruse to ban as many guns as these cretins can get away with.

According to Dave Hardy, they’ve granted a stay, meaning Maryland will still be permitted to consider “good and substantial” reason for permit applicants, until the case is decided on appeal. But as Dave mentions, they’ve accelerated the schedule for hearing the case, and it’ll be heard late October.

Can be found at NJ Today, in what sounds more like a joint press release from the gun control groups than actual reporting:

1. It requires anyone selling ammunition to be a licensed dealer.
2. It requires ammunition buyers who are not licensed dealers to present photo identification at the time of purchase, effectively banning the online or mail order purchase of ammo by regular civilians.
3. It requires licensed ammunition dealers to maintain records of the sale of ammunition.
4. It requires licensed ammunition dealers to report the sale of more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition to an unlicensed person within any five consecutive business days.

My answer to our opponents on this bill is hell no. We will fight this tooth and nail. We must ensure this bill goes absolutely nowhere.

I now stand by the fact that I wouldn’t read anything into this. The media is going crazy. The left is saying that Scalia is supporting a right to rocket launchers, and the right is saying he clearly believes we can restrict AR-15s and magazines. I think Justice Scalia is saying no such thing. He is saying it will have to be decided. This is simply fact. There are no tea leaves to be read here.

I don’t think there’s too much to be read into Justice Scalia’s statements appearing over at National Journal, in regards to which way an assault weapons ban would go if it appeared before the court. By the Heller “common use” test, an AR-15 should pass with flying colors, but that’s not to say it actually would. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with taking an assault weapons ban before the Court unless we got one or two more friendly votes. That way we can afford to lose a justice or two on a specific issue, and still have a winning majority.

So reports John Richardson. So Dick Morris turns out to be wrong, but I’m sure all that exposure he got spreading that rumor helped sales of his book, which was likely his only goal.

There have been copies of a draft treaty floating around out there on the Internet. If you’ve read them, they say essentially nothing. It is a document of sheer meaninglessness, describing neither what is required of signatory nation or what must be undergone to be in compliance. It is the kind of pablum only unelected bureaucrats at the United Nations could come up with.

That’s why I share Dave Kopel’s joy this session ended without agreement. This puts off any further action until closer to the election, in October, meaning if we change the occupant of the White House, we may be able to avoid an Arms Trade Treaty entirely.

So it seems the Republicans won control of the Tennessee legislature for the first time in a long time, and then proceeded to do what Republicans do best when gun owners help them get elected: tell us they don’t owe us anything, and proceed to do little to move gun rights forward. While the particular topic of parking lot bills is not one I’m fond of, I agree with Packetman that I’m happy to see NRA holding Republican feet to the fire, and trying to push for the GOP to be better. As I said, I’m not fond of the parking lot bills, but Republicans have to get the message that just being less-bad than the other guy isn’t enough, especially in areas where the Democrats can be convinced to play along and compete for our vote. It also looks like strategic targeting in primaries is now becoming part of the NRA playbook, which is smart. If you can get enough heads on pikes*, eventually you just need to threaten, without having to throw down and follow through on election day.

* For our metaphorically and intellectually challenged friends in the gun control movement, I am not suggesting Chris Cox behead and pike any of our political opponents. I am not suggesting anyone do that. It is just a metaphor, like “heads on a platter” does not mean literal heads a platter, nor does saying a newly hired CEO is a wild hatchet man when it comes to culling the head count, means that the new CEO is an axe murderer. I would normally not feel the need to point this out, but many of our opponents have shown an inability to converse like rational adults.
