From the “He’ll Just Take Your Gun” Files

Apparently it happened, but it was an escort defending herself from someone who was trying to kill her, and it turns out it may be that she stopped a serial killer who was responsible for possibly up to four other murders. He put the gun down to strangle her, she picked it up and shot him fatally. One the one hand, good show. On the other hand, I guess it is possible for an unarmed person turn the tables on someone with a gun! In this case, I’m glad she was able.

  1. Believe it or not, I’ve seen at least one anti-gunner try to claim this incident as an example of how a bad guy could take a gun away from a person using a gun for self-defense!

  2. It’s probably a lot easier to grab a gun from somebody who is trying to strangle and/or rape you – rather than somebody just interested in self-defense.

    1. Isn’t that the reason for how often cops get shot with their own guns?
Not necessarily strangling/murdering people, but just buckling up an angry drunk in the back of car makes it much more likely they’ll make a grab for the gun.

  3. Something similar happened locally to a daughter of a co-worker. An armed man tried to rob her at gunpoint at a gas station… she got the gun away from him, and he took off.

    Amazing and brave women!

Particularly when the armed person sets their gun down.

  5. A key point is that the assailant got his thrill from the strangulation, not the use of the gun. So he gave the victim her opportunity by getting himself distracted in his sick excitement.

Certainly there is a lesson all right: in self-defense scenarios, don’t shift to being a serial killer psychopath in mid incident.

  6. If you browse the NRA “Armed Citizen” files, you will find a number of cases where guns have been taken away from attackers, and sometimes used against them.
