More on the Grassley Investigation of ATF

John Richardson has a lot of details. Basically the DOJ gave Grassley a big middle finger in response to inquiries. Not surprising, unfortunately.

  1. “At the outset, the allegation described in your Jan 27 letter — that ATF ‘sanctioned’ or otherwise knowingly allowed the sale of assault weapons to a straw purchaser who then transported them into Mexico–is false. ATF makes every effort to interdict weapons…”

So, some of those weapons may have happened to make it across the border. ATF just claims that it didn’t sanction or knowingly allow the straw purchaser to transport them.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement. That’s like saying, “Well, we didn’t think that crackhead would actually overdose on all the blow our dealer-cum-informant sold him!”

Looks like the claim of “We F’d up because we didn’t have enough resources” didn’t get enough lipstick on the pig so they might as well just try to make it go away.

There’s a reason Ron Paul refused to vote for the “sure-thing” “honor the DOJ” bill last year. “…history shows that the unconstitutional usurpations of power and abuse of rights goes back at least almost a hundred years ….”
