More Hating on Kirsten Gillibrand

This time from Maureen Dowd:

So now we have an N.R.A. handmaiden in Bobby Kennedy’s old seat? Kirsten Gillibrand, a k a Tracy Flick, accepting the honor with her Republican pal Al D’Amato beside her on stage? Gross.

This is what passes for opinion these days?  Talk about catty.

Then the Democrats would have had another Kennedy in the Senate representing New York — Bobby’s niece and a smart, policy-oriented, civic-minded woman to whom the president feels deeply indebted in an era when every state has its hand out.

I just don’t know if, like, you know, Caroline Kennedy was, like, the right person, you know, to represent New York in the Senate.

Instead they have Gillibrand, who voted against the Wall Street — as in New York — bailout bill. And who introduced a bill to balance the federal budget annually, which suggests she would oppose the $825 billion in deficit spending that President Obama proposes to rescue the country, not least New York.

Like I said, I’m liking these blue dog Democrats a lot better than Republicans these days.  She’s against having my tax money go to bail out rich bankers in New York City?  I should remember to send her a Christmas card next year.

  1. Being catty has been Maureen Dowd’s shtick for as long as she’s been writing. It’s been that way for at least as long as I can remember. Looking for anything of substance in anything she writes is probably about as productive as trying to build a house of straw in the middle of a Cat 5 hurricane.

  2. I’ve been reading all these columns by these hacks, and I’m starting to wonder if it’s more about getting the gun issue pushed to forefront of politics (make it an A list issue, instead of letting it smolder as a B or C list issue). I mean, there are a lot more important issues to a lot of people then guns currently. And these Anti’s don’t wanna be forgotten.

    Thoughts?

  3. Remember that there were a number of Republicans who did what the voters wanted and voted against the bailout, like my representative, Bill Sali. And of course, he lost his re-election bid.

  4. I think I like the Blue Dog Democrats better than most of the Republicans lately. Kirsten Gillibrand’s against having our tax money go to bail out rich bankers in New York City?

She’s also against having federal tax money go to bail our failed state programs? She has a 100% positive rating from the National Rifle Association? She opposes granting amnesty and to illegal immigrants? AND she received an 80/100 rating from the Human Rights Campaign (the NRA of LGBT advocacy groups)? She supports extending the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts? But she opposes the No Child Left Behind Act?

Holy crap. Can we rewind to 2007 so I can put a campaign sign for her in my lawn?

Is it too early to start shopping for a “Palin/Gillibrand 2012” t-shirt?

  5. Shame on NY for passing up the chance to have someone’s niece as a Senator.

Is that the best they can say about her. I don’t care who you are, your niece is not qualified.

Dowd is a lightweight. This is exhibit 8,742 proving that.

  6. Dowd and Krugman are the tag team of staggering folly and bitterness that fouls up the NY Times editorial page. There was a time when the Times tried to make people pay for their opinion section. It was an absolute failure, and now that they are giving it away- they still can’t make any money. Dowd is a bitter old hack who like all liberals is starting to see their relevance creep away. Her articles remind me of when Stalin was dying. Just a dried up old socialist whose last act will be to shake her fist at God, gnash her teeth, and then die……
