Blogosphere Nonsense

A lot of misinformation is floating around on blogs out there. Most people are completely uneducated on guns, gun laws, and related subjects. Here’s a good example of what I’m talking about. We need to educate these types of folks so they know what they are talking about.

UPDATE: It seems we’ve been asked to leave, and I’m certainly willing to oblige. It’s his sandbox.

I WON’T post comments that idiotically claim that gun control hasn’t worked in Britain and made it a nation that is vastly safer from gun murders than the U.S.

50 deaths. FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR.

Listen, gun nuts: please, go play somewhere else. Oh, and if you love guns so fucking much: please join the Army and go fight in Iraq. You’ll get to handle all the
guns you want over there, while you’re fighting to secure oil for the ExxonMobil and the other rich cronies of Bush.

Oh, and one other thing: please grow a pair. You gun nuts are such pussies. You’re so fucking frightened of anything and everything. You think you need your precious gun to defend yourself.

How about stop being a coward for a change? Real men use their fists to settle disputes (or better yet, they use reason and logic).
Only cowards use guns.

Reasoned DiscourseTM Strikes Again! I pointed out earlier that you can’t use totals in countries with different population sizes. Britain does have a lower murder rate than the US. It’s had a lower murder rate even when both countries had no gun control laws. It’s violent crime rate has trended up since it’s banned firearms. Oh well. And they wonder why they are losing.

  1. Judging by them bringing up Japan they don’t know a great deal about what comes with said country’s firearm laws. Left them a nice little comment. Doubt it will show up though.

  2. Before anyone can say anything. The comment I left does not have any profanity or petty insults in it.

  3. Mr McDonald just showed to everyone he doesn’t want want to be educated but is willing to wallow in his own ignorance.

  4. I left this:

In your response to Sebastian, you claim that England has “something like 30 gun murders a year (compared to over 10,000 in the U.S.).”

You then stoop to an ad hominem attack about living in a world with no relation to the real one.

    Pot, meet kettle.

From the Telegraph newspaper in the UK.:

“In Merseyside there were 57 shootings during the 12 months to last December compared with 15 in the same period the year before.” This is a report from 2002, one of the first that comes up in a Google search for “Gun Crime UK”. I’m not going to spend all evening looking for more recent data.

Note that Merseyside isn’t a major metro area, it’s a smallish town. London, more on the order of a large city, reported 939 gun crimes. Note I don’t say 939 shootings, but if the 59 in Merseyside are any indication, I’d have to guess that 30 murders/year in England is completely fabricated number.

Consider actually finding information for yourself in the future, instead of believing the pap that’s been shoveled by the media for so long.

I’m predicting this comment will not see the light of ‘blog’.

  5. Wow – did you see his comment that the UK only has 30 murders per year? What dream world does he live in? According to the UK itself the 2006/2007 report showed they had 755 Homicides there in that one year period. I posted a comment with this correction along with the source of the info – we’ll see if he “approves” the comment or just deletes it. :)

How can they be having any murders since guns are banned there? Oh yeah, people knew how to murder without guns long before guns were invented, not to mention the fact that gun bans only keep guns out of the hands of the law abiding citizens. Criminals will always have all the guns that they want – all it takes is a little cold hard cash on the black market.

  6. Unsurprisingly, my comment does not appear to have met the editorial standards of Marc’s blog.

    I’m so ashamed.

  7. I left a comment too, but who knows if it will be published.

Most anti’s are afraid of Reasoned Discourse. We’ll see if this guy follows suit.

  8. Meh….. A lot of table pounding to do when the facts do not support their argument. My second comment wasn’t published. Can only wait and see if the third makes it.

  9. funny that such an “award winning journalist” doesnt bother to use sources for the facts he spouts?

and suprise, hes fine with screwing with the 2nd amendment… i wonder what he would say if we called on bans under the 1st amendment so that we didnt have to read his garbage?

  10. Another good example to use is Aus. Following their gun ban, there was a one year sharp drop in firearm homicides in a trend that had been dropping for over twenty years. However, the actual murder rate stayed the same showing an increase in non-firearm homicides.

  11. I posted a reasoned response to his inaccurate blog posting, I doubt that it will be approved , he seems to be just another fanatic hopolophobe.

There is no changing their minds, they don’t have any logic behind their feelings against guns.

  12. I had to laugh at him calling anybody a coward when words of truth scare him so badly that he refuses to acknowledge their existence. How cowardly is that?
