Turning off Comments?

I guess they got tired of all us gun folks using their bandwidth.   I figured something was going to give when I saw that some of you were talking about reloading (for those of you coming from the Brady Campaign, that means making your own cartridges) in their blog comments.

We wish the Brady’s the best of luck with their new and improved blog, that no one will read now.

  1. They’ve locked it down for the time being. My guess is that the “new, improved” one will either A) not allow comments ala gunguys or B) cull the allowed comments alot heavier than they have been.

  2. Comments are turned off for the 2 previous posts also, which had 40 and 130-something replies respectively. They’ve shut it down `cause they realized they were getting pounded.

  3. Sorry to spoil everyones fun, I was one of those evil “gun-pushers” talking about reloading.

Just to let everyone know, I went through and archived ( saved each thread page) all previous posts to see if any if them, or individual posts in them mysteriously vanish when AND IF the blog returns.

My guess is they will drop the comment limit to like 25 and put limits on the number of times each of us can comment. Meanwhile, they’ll let Kelli sign up under many different names and post much more than any of us.

I also wouldn’t put it past them to edit out all the facts we have provided leaving only insults against Kelli, while removing all the insults she made towards us.

I think the BC is definitely tired of being owned and knowing the do not have their own facts and logic to compare against ours, all they can do exercise oppressive control over the forums. Funny, they would be demonstrating the very same oppressive totalitarian control over us that we continue to tell them the 2nd Amendment is designed to protect us against, which they continue to deny could happen “tool and nail.”

  4. maybe it was something you said? or maybe you offended the wrong person? or maybe they got so many messages from supporters saying they found the comments offensive and they shut it down for good?

or maybe, it’s none of the above.

    macca knows but isn’t telling!

  5. Looks Like Paul decided to “TAKE HIS BLOG AND GO HOME!” Like a frustrated child who takes his ball and goes home when things don’t go his way.

  6. I always find comments with information that dares to challenge my beliefs incredibly offensive. Why bother to temper your opinions in the crucible of critique when you can shout in an echo chamber instead and not have your feelings hurt?

  7. So basically DMeadows was right. The “Reasoned Discourse” nonsense was just an excuse to shut down/censor the blogs while trying to demonize firearm owners again.

  8. Macca, did you mean this:

But seriously, y’all are your own worst enemies in this regard. The Brady Campaign writes up bombastic posts and press releases full of logical fallacies, propaganda, and misinformation in an obvious attempt to manipulate emotions, then allows us a forum to refute it. We do our best to educate people, while the BC does their best to frighten and cajole.

I can imagine the complaints they were getting…

  9. i feel that each of the “the government is going to take away my gun and i’ll cry” bunch lives in an echo chamber. my goodness, many were on 24/7…seemingly no life at all other than to comment on blogs. with kaveman it was understandable….he was so bored living life in the wilderness that he had to bore us until we couldn’t stand it.

maybe that’s why things are shut off right now? it had gotten tiresome and boring.

like i said, i could explain it to you, but you’d just say i was not telling you the truth. that’s you MO….

hope everyone can find something else to to on this lovely weekend.

  10. zen, aren’t just so very clever. this must mean the world to you. like i said, no life outside the blogs.

zen, i bet you even bore yourself sometime.

laughing at all of the guys who were on the Brady blog. have some koolaid and relax.

  11. Wow… it looks like I became Brady Blog central while I was doing other things. Sorry to take so long to approve the comments. I haven’t seen many of you before.

  12. Sebastian,

I probably won’t be around too much. Trying to save lives in my little corner of the world.

    Wish me luck.

Shall I say hello to Peter for you?

    Have a lovely weekend.

  13. macca. Trying to save lives by keeping people helpless. Thugs everywhere thank you.

  14. Say hi to Peter for me if you want. You’re always welcome around here Macca. Unlikes you guys, I won’t turn my comments off, and don’t feel worried about opposing points of view ;)

  15. thirdpower, you have no idea what i meant when i said I was trying to save lives. here’s a hint….gang activity.

  16. Right. You’re advocating for measures that will disarm the victims of gangs, saving gang-bangers lives in the process. What’s so hard to figure out?

  17. I don’t knock people who volunteer for anti-gang activity. They do something that’s important. But how does passing more laws that I’m going to have to obey, but they won’t, going to help anything?

Storms passing through. I’m in the DC area for the weekend with Bitter. I don’t know if they are passing through home or not, but if the blog disappears, you know why :)

  18. i work in law enforcement and we have a gang problem in our city. need i say more?

No, you sure as Hell don’t. We know why you have a gang problem in your city, no matter which city you are talking about.

Because you and others like you keep supplying them victims then buying and melting the evidence for which you pay and guarantee anonymity.

How many people do you guard, actually physically guard, 24/7/365? How many would be helpless because you do not guard them 24/7/ 365, while gangbangers ply their craft 24/7/365?

I am sure the gangbangers are very appreciative of your assistance. However, I am not. I prefer not to be a designated victim because it makes you feel superior. Go commit a physical impossibility.

  20. Which agency are you with Macca? You seem to want us to get to know you. Last Sunday I had lunch with a Philadelphia Police detective over at Geno’s Steaks. Good time! My town (Philadelphia) also has a gang problem.

  21. that no one will read now.

I think we should make that literal. As in, the dozens and dozens of us who have been going there every day should all agree not to go there at all.

If they don’t want our comments, then they shouldn’t get our site hits either. Maybe just you and a couple other gun bloggers can check in there every day for the rest of us :)

    Macca,

You know absolutely nothing about me or my lifestyle. I can honestly say that I am rarely ever bored, it just so happens that I have the freedom to organize my time as I wish so that I can work on my own schedule. If you had read a number of my past entries you would know that I am a grad student that just received his first Masters degree and now I have quite a bit of time until my PhD program begins.

As for archiving the posts, that was done for reasons you seem to be totally ignorant of, I have supporting my statements with facts that I can show. I have no problem doing my own research to obtain information that can be used at a later date. This would be the case if Paul edited and/or deleted blog threads and/or posts then made false claims. I would have the proof ready to disprove his nonsense.

As for your Koolaid remark, recall that we have been the only ones supporting our arguments with facts, throw out all the ad hominems you want, we all (including you) know that you have yet to disprove one single fact we have presented.

  24. So macca, did you ever contact “Blackmanwithagun” for a discussion? I’ve contacted four of the police agencies. None have any official position listed on their sites nor have any replied w/ thier positions.

You keep claiming we’re the ones preventing discussion, why won’t you discuss anything?

If you are as cowardly on the street as you are in debate I doubt there is a single person in your life and associations who trusts you. Not a damn thing wrong with my blood pressure. Nor am I angry, I am just weary of assholes. You make me tireder than most.

  26. “macca knows but isn’t telling!”

    Because he works there.

    “Wish me luck.”

You’ll need it because your pipe dream will 1) never happen and 2) be not work even if it does.

  27. […] is an intern or some other low-level feeb and this was partially his side project. Though now, he’s in comments at SIH claiming he’s a cop in an anti-gang unit. That’s bullshit but if it were true, […]

Comment by SayUncle » The Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Ownership Blog goes poof on July 30th, 2007

if i could turn back the clock, i’d be an intern at Brady. no, i live in a red state many many miles from DC. i never said i was a cop, i said i was in law enforcement.

  28. If by red state, you mean Northern Virginia, I’ll buy that. If by many miles, you mean like 30, I’ll buy that.

    Macca,

It logs your IP when you visit and post. I know the general area your IP resolves to.

  29. i don’t live anywhere near VA. i’m many many many states away. so whatever you think you know, you don’t. maybe you don’t know as much about the IP as you think? I don’t know anything about it so can’t help you.

  30. You are right. My bad. They all resolve to Northern Virginia, because your ISP is headquartered there. You’re either in Austin, TX or Tampa, FL according to how the net block divides itself. Your ISP doesn’t seem to divide up according to service area like most do.
