The Science is In: More Guns Really Does Equal Less Crime

You’d think this should shut up the anti-gunners once and for all, but both you and I know that will never happen:

The purpose of the present study is to determine the effects of state-level assault weapons bans and concealed weapons laws on state-level murder rates. Using data for the period 1980 to 2009 and controlling for state and year fixed effects, the results of the present study suggest that states with restrictions on the carrying of concealed weapons had higher gun-related murder rates than other states. It was also found that assault weapons bans did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level. These results suggest that restrictive concealed weapons laws may cause an increase in gun-related murders at the state level. The results of this study are consistent with some prior research in this area, most notably Lott and Mustard (1997).

You can’t argue with science!

  1. The left refuses to abide by math when people tell them that the entitlement system is falling apart, so why the hell would they listen to science when it comes to guns?

  2. The antis will NEVER believe it. Anything with Lott’s name is disregarded. Same with Kleck and/or Gertz.

They honestly believe that any study that shows no correlation (or an inverse correlation) between gun ownership rates and murder rates (“gun murder” or not) MUST be propaganda – no matter how the data is obtained – specifically BECAUSE it shows a non-existent or inverse correlation. As in, “It doesn’t agree with me, therefore it’s not legitimate science.”

And they call US “bitter clingers.”

  3. Interesting, the left believes fervently in global warming based upon faulty data, cherry picked data and manipulated / falsified data. (Not to mention blindingly clear empirical evidence.) But will not accept conclusions about firearms based upon clear repeatable and verifiable data.
“Don’t bother me with facts, my mind is made up”

  4. “Of course we can’t argue with science! Why do you think we so readily resort to emotional dancing on the graves of victims, and otherwise appeal to your emotions? If we wanted to argue with science, we’d be advocating the legalization of machine guns, and we can’t do that, because guns are scary!”
