Groupon Anti-Gun

Check out this local story that indicates Groupon is ending deals that involve gun safety training. I’ve used Groupon in the past, and will never again. Here’s their contact site. As an alternative, I’d suggest Living Social.

UPDATE: On second thought, it looks like Living Social may be no better.

  1. Emailed. They say they’ll contact me within 24 hrs…If they keep to that, I can only imagine that if this hit the NRA mothership on Facebook, their entire customer support apparatus would be overwhelmed by pissed off gunnies. And if they get their customer support on a by-call contract…well, that’d learn ’em.

    1. Do you have evidence that you can point to? When I go check their site, they still list them, but the ones around here sell out regularly and currently show as sold out.

    2. No they haven’t; my company provides a subscription to LivingSocial as a bennie and they put up gun and self-defense related deals in the Plano TX area regularly.

  2. Response I just received from Groupon:

Thanks for your submission! Although we typically respond to most emails in less than 24 hours, we’re running a little behind right now. You should hear from us in about 48 hours. Sorry in advance for the delay!
    Regards,
    Groupon Support

  3. The only ones ive seen locally (either with livingsocial or groupon) were places offering half off their $200 carry permit classes that everywhere else are selling for $65.

(In TN, the syllabus is very strict so there is virtually no difference in any carry permit class, no matter who the instructor is.)

  4. I wrote an essay 30 years ago in business school about the folly of mixing business and politics. The example I used was Hewlett Packard supporting gun control. I got an “A” on it as I recall. HP’s decline over the past 3 years was nice to see.
If Groupon thinks that the path to success lies in offending its customers and potential customers, then it is a foolish company that is on its way out. They have a 52-week high of 52.84 and last closed at 4.95. They’re on their way out.
Gun owners have long memories and tend to be disinclined towards forgiveness.

  5. Fired off an email to them as well. I’m guessing they got a few calls from the anti groups and got spooked. Should be nothing compared to what they’re about to experience from actual people (as opposed to groups with no members).

    1. I’m not too hopeful, but I hope that the flood of emails will work. I just got my reply (similar to Heather’s), but they voluntarily pulled me off of all email lists and offered to completely delete my account. So they are ready and happy to cut off customers over this. I will give them the okay to do it later this week. I have an expired Groupon in there that’s still worth $7 that I got through Groupon Bucks, so I didn’t even pay for it. I’m thinking that I’ll happily use it to pay for a giant birthday margarita and then cancel the account completely. If they are so ready to drop their customers, well, I’ll raise a toast to them on it on their dime.

  6. Got a response.

Thank you for reaching out to us. We appreciate your feedback and take these inquiries seriously.

Gun-related deals, including shooting ranges, conceal-and-carry, and clay shooting, are on hiatus as we review our internal policies for the types of deals that we feature. Groupon has always aimed to offer deals driven by local consumer preference and request; at this time, enough consumers have asked us to eliminate the category that we believe a review is warranted. A decision has not yet been made.

Please note that all existing purchases for gun-related Groupons are still valid and deals that were previously offered are not being canceled.

Thank you again for contacting us, and please let me know if I can do anything else to help.

    Regards,
