Bigot Says What?

From the tolerant and thoughtful progressives in Delaware:

Dude, you’re not originally from the south. Your grammar and spelling are too good. Where did you grow up?

Stereotype much?  As a fellow northerner, I hate people who say crap like this.  And I don’t just say that because I’m living with a native Oklahoman.  Two things have to be true to believe this:

  1. You have to have spent very little time in The South, and very little time getting to know people there.
  2. You’ve never looked too terribly hard at people around you.

Ignorance is everywhere, and northern progressives don’t get a pass just for being northern progressives.  It’s definitely true in this case.

  1. Dude, lighten up. It was a joke. I’m married to a southerner. That said, I’m pretty sure the original blog post on delawareliberal.net was a story about a church in Oklahoma that was having a gun giveaway. Nice.

  2. Oh, and a funny joke at that, Dom.

Dude, you’re not black! Your grammar and spelling are too good.

Dude, you’re not not a Mexican! You’re speaking English.

Dude, you’re not not a Woman! You’re not correcting me incessantly.

What a RIOT! Ever think of starting a comedy routine? I mean bigotry is funny stuff!

Now if you’ll excuse me, this Georgian has to go break in a new King James bible and clean his arsenal.

  3. I’m in the middle of reading Shelby Foote’s epic “The Civil War: A Narrative.” He was a native of Mississippi.

Maybe the reply to Delawareliberal is to quote Wayne’s World:

Wayne: Or, imagine, being able to be magically whisked away to… Delaware.

    [pauses]

Wayne (not sure what to say): Hi. I’m in Delaware.

  4. delaware gave you your gunpowder to shoot your guns at stuff for quite a few years. I said shoot, not kill, don’t go apeshit on me please….

  5. Oklahoma isn’t part of the South… at least in my book. I also don’t think parts of Appalachia and parts of Texas should count, either. I believe it depends upon the ratio of Neo-Confederates to normal people.
