Back in the Swing

Getting myself back to work.  It’s going to take a bit of work to get caught up, so forgive me if I seem out of it for a day or so as I get back into my routine.  One thing that happened while I was gone is Front Sight apparently went into receivership.  I guess my training certificate isn’t really worth much now.  I think they are still operating, but who knows for how much longer.

UPDATE: I should make clear, I never really thought the cert was worth much.  He handed those out like candy.

  1. His spam machine is still working. I have received 6 spam emails since he went into receivership. Did you know that this is my last chance to get a lifetime membership at Front Site for only $10,000? It was also my last chance in April, and March, and February and January. In December of last year, they were almost sold out of lifetime memberships. Guess some people died or something.

    What a buffoon.

  2. I remember getting a free certificate to Front Sight a few years back (I got it from the captain of the local police’s SWAT team after we hit it off well after I wrote in with some inquiries) and going with Kit.

The training and facilities were top-notch, but the pushy sales tactics (which were totally separate from the instruction itself) was really creepy and a major turn off. The fact that they’re not doing so well is not exactly a surprise.

Next time, I think I’ll just go to Gunsite.

  3. I had the chance to meet Buzz Mills, the owner of Gunsite, this weekend. He was very nice. I also know he donated a few days for NRA donors to come out and do training before the start of the annual meeting. It’s good to see industry folks use their business to help the cause.

  4. Heh, I just got spammed yesterday with an email saying by popular demand Front Sight is extended the deadline on their super duper special 2 for 1 lifetime membership. He forgot to tell me lifetime=3 weeks.

  5. I used a free Front Sight certificate to attend training last weekend. It appeared to be business as usual (I used a free certificate last year also).
