Today is the Day

Where we’re likely going to have a vote in the Senate. Please call your Senators, even if you have done so already. You can find contact info here. We can win this. Graham is opposed. Jeff Flake is opposed. Let’s give them a vote, and send them packing!

UPDATE: Harry Reid is on the floor right now touting SAF/CCRBKA support for this legislation.

UPDATE: Grassley is up speaking, saying they don’t have the votes. Grassley is acknowledging the bill is flawed, and opposition is not coming form the fringe. Sounds like Grassley is also suggesting there will be some kind of alternative that the anti-gun folks oppose. Coburn?

UPDATE: Dick Durbin is up, reminding us that we do this For the Children(TM). We also have to do it for Gabby, but mostly, For the Children(TM).

UPDATE: It just kind of kills me that people just got blown up in Boston, and what is the Democrats’ priority in the Senate? Gun control.

UPDATE: Durbin is dragging out the thoroughly debunked 40% number.

UPDATE: Durbin is off the floor. We’re now waiting on the floor for another speaker. It’s not a fore drawn conclusion there will be a vote today. Obviously they want a vote, but it may not happen today.

UPDATE: *crickets* (or rather Chopin, on C-SPAN)

UPDATE: Harry Reid has motioned to extend the debate to 3:30PM, and put the Senate in recess until 2:15PM.

UPDATE: Coverage will resume here.

  1. My mom reported that Bloomberg’s ad started running in Tennessee, and they were all like, “what the heck is this?” It’s no shocker that Corker & Alexander have now apparently come out against it. :)

  2. I’ve got nobody to call; one of my senators is a spineles little Obama toadie boy and the other is a RINO turncoat…

  3. Would this help?

First, RINOs planning on supporting the bill. Contact them and plead with them!

    John McCain (202) 224-2235
    Susan Collins (202) 224-2523
    Mark Kirk (202) 224-2854

Now, the wobblers who may be swayed:

    Jeff Flake (202) 224-4521
    Bob Corker (202) 224-3344
    Kelly Ayotte (202) 224-3324
    Heidi Heitkamp (202) 224-2043
    Max Baucus (202) 224-2651
    Mark Pryor (202) 224-2353
    Mark Begich (202) 224-3004
    Mary Landrieu (202) 224-5824

Finally, THANK these senators who are opposing the bill!

    Lindsey Graham (202) 224-5972
    Johnny Isakson (202) 224-3643
    Saxby Chambliss (202) 224-3521
    Tom Coburn (202) 224-5754
    Lamar Alexander (202) 224-4944
    Richard Burr (202) 224-3154
    John Hoeven (202) 224-2551

    1. The Hill reported last night that Corker has already come out against the amendment. I also thought I saw that Flake has already come out against it.

  4. Couldn’t get a call in to Landrieu, so I left a voicemail and an email. Hopefully that’s a good sign.

  5. Just got off the phone with SAF… told them that Gottlieb WAS NOT HELPFUL. He didn’t need to help out or lead with legislation when it seems to be so weak now (witness CSPAN delays).

    SAF’s response: he’s human.

Maybe he’s just got too much ego.

  6. I’ve got the life long bigot Tim Kaine (who has heard an earful from me on this over the years) and Mark Warner (who I actually have a relationship with).

Mark is a savvy savvy guy. Incredibly intelligent. And he wants to be president. He knows that doesn’t happen if he doesn’t get re-elected. And he knows being seen as a gun banner doesn’t help in the general election, nor particularly in the Iowa Caucus (though it doesn’t necessarily hurt him).

He won’t signal anything until he absolutely has too. And has extracted as much as he needs out of the process.

  7. My senators are no votes but I contact Cornyn and tell him not to vote for it anyway. Your senators listen so contact them. TS
