I’ll Leave it to Readers …

to dissect this bit of ignorance. I love how none of these wise and learned pundits ever mention a damned thing about the Supreme Court. They are more interested in showing everyone else how smart they are, rather than conceding that when it comes to who Obama is going to put on the Court, we might actually have a point in opposing a second term.

If Kagan posts a pro-2A opinion, I’ll shut up, but I’m not holding my breath.

  1. The worms crawling out in the comments are even more a show of ignorance.

  2. Actually, the author is almost right in some ways. If you read Audacity of Hope, Obama goes out of his way to make the point that he never considered the NRA a “special interest” group. Come to think of it, I’ve never heard him make any reference to the “gun lobby”, and I don’t think his “they cling to their guns and religion” comment was intended to be as offensive as it came across. I have no doubt that Obama would ban all guns tomorrow if he had the power, but he’s much too smart for that and understands what the consequences would be if that were to happen. He might even “hold fire” for a second term, in order to protect the Democratic party brand from future attacks.

The real danger is in his likely SCOTUS appointments, as Sebastian has said repeatedly. Gun control at the federal level is not a serious threat for the forseeable future, or at least until this economic crisis is over (whichever comes first….).
