Does He Want To Take Your Guns?

Everyone by now has heard Barack Obama trying to reassure skeptical Pennsylvanians that he’s not going to take their guns:

“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said. But the Illinois senator could still see skeptics in the crowd, particularly on the faces of several men at the back of the room.

So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ he said. “This can’t be the reason not to vote for me. Can everyone hear me in the back? I see a couple of sportsmen back there. I’m not going to take away your guns.’’

There’s two telling things about this.  One is that even the most left leaning candidate to serve in recent memory can’t come out explicitly in favor of gun control, and at least has to feign support for the Second Amendment.  Remember that just eight years ago, presidential candidates were running on national licensing and registration, and renewing the assault weapons ban!

The other thing is, there’s a whole lot of things Obama can do to end gun ownership in this country without going door-to-door.  I actually believe him when he says he’s not going to take your guns.  But will he let your children buy guns?  Will he let you pass your guns along to your children?  Will he use onerous regulation, to close down every gun shop?  Will he use environmental regulations to close down shooting ranges?

President Barack Obama can end gun ownership in this country in a generation without he or any of his agents setting a single foot in anyone’s home.  He might argue that he doesn’t have the votes in Congress to do it, but that’s not comforting.  There’s a lot of damage an Obama Administratin can do with no help from Congress, and that’s why this guy needs to lose, and lose big.  Pennsylvanians should not fool themselves.

  1. I don’t have the votes in Congress

Uh, maybe today, but come January 2009 he’s going to have another 30 seats in the House and over 60 seats in the Senate. He will be able to do whatever the fuck he wants, election promises (and lies) be damned.

And don’t think he, and his supporters, don’t understand that.

  2. “If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said.

Sure, but you are going to try to take the gun on my hip aren’t you Barry?

  3. He said he isn’t going to take away our guns (and I say our becuase I own several myself).

Then he says he couldn’t ‘even if he wanted to.

That isn’t an admission of wanting to if he could, its a secondary clause to make it even more clear to you guys that it ain’t going to happen. I’ve been very suprised at the amount of silliness and panic on the pro-gun side about his position.

How much clearer does he have to be? Maybe you guys will stop telling everyone he will.

As to Barack, you don’t have to like him or vote for him. You can be all excited about McCain and Palin and vote for them instead. But lets be honest about the position each candidate takes. And if they change it, lets be honest about that too.

  4. It’s not silliness, not after what happened during the 90s. Obama has repeatedly confirmed that he is our enemy. All he has done is announce that he doesn’t have the political power necessary to attack us effectively. Whoop dee doo, real comforting.

  5. “I’ve been very suprised at the amount of silliness and panic on the pro-gun side about his position.”

He has been very clear in his position for permanently reenacting the assault weapons ban as well as his position against concealed weapons permits. I disagree that it’s “silly” to worry about these things.

    Try it.

Why? Look at the guy’s position before he wanted to be president. Ban on handguns. Ban gun shops with 5 miles of a park or school (which is to say almost all of them). Ban assault weapons. Licensing, registration.

Now he says he won’t take our guns. Not very reassuring in light that he’s never advocated going door to door, but nonetheless has advocated ending legal gun ownership in this country.

  8. What did it take for Clinton to enact Wilderness designation and other “Executive Orders” that have the power of law behind them – what was the phrase of his staffer Begala, “A stroke of the Pen, Law of the Land – kinda cool, huh?”
Obama is lying when he postulates/dissembles a need for congressional votes.

Eight years ago?! They’re running on the same crap today.

The Democratic Party Platform can be viewed here:

    http://www.democrats.org/a/party/platform.html

    From page 50, under “Firearms”:

We can work together to enact and enforce commonsense laws and improvements — like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check system, and reinstating the assault weapons ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals.

  10. Yeah, but you had to go to the platform on their web site, and go to page 50. It was spread all over the news 8 years ago, and was openly proclaimed by the candidates. It’s not that I think Democrats have changed, but they are forced to hide their true beliefs because they are electoral poison. That’s good news for us. We just have to make sure they can’t hide.

  11. BTW…

Today I launched my gun blog. I’m obviously coming from a much, much different place than your Snowflakesinhell blog. (Which was the first gun blog I had subscribed too btw.) My blog comes from the standpoint of a learning diary of someone new to firearms.

    http://nugun.wordpress.com/

I figure a lot of people have probably forgotten more than I’ll ever know about firearms. And this blog, is to kind of make a record of someone’s progression in firearms. So that other noobs like me can benefit from my learning.

I put out right up front that I am no expert, rather the exact opposite. But I figure I’m a learner, and other interested newbies might be asking the same questions I am. And with people like Obama looking to take our rights away if they get the votes. I think Joe-average shooter can no longer allow him or herself to stay on the sidelines. We need to be more vocal, support ourselves, and more of all educate each other.
