Horrible Story

A seven year old girl takes six bullets in an effort to save her mother.  Based on the wounds, she’ll be disfigured for life:

A 7-year-old-girl is being hailed as an “angel from heaven” and a hero for jumping in front of an enraged gunman, who pumped six bullets into the child as she used her body as a shield to save her mother’s life.

Alexis Goggins, a first-grader at Campbell Elementary School, is at Children’s Hospital in Detroit recovering from gunshot wounds to the eye, left temple, chin, cheek, chest and right arm.

She’s very lucky she survived.  You want to know what gets me angry about this story?

Police identified him as Calvin Tillie, 29, a four-time convicted felon who Parker had dated for six months before breaking off the relationship.

Emphasis mine.  Can someone explain to me what this cretin was doing out on the streets?   The criminal justice system has pretty obviously failed this little girl and her mother.

  1. What are you talking about? Obviously, the only thing that would have prevented this crime is closing the gun show loophole and ending the easy availability of guns on the streets. This nice, quiet, respectable young man would have obviously been a constructive and contributory member of society after his latest release from pris0n if only it weren’t for those horrible guns that everyone finds laying around on the streets all the time.

  2. Yep, you said it them thar guns “Made him a monster”

The really sad part is the police didn’t get the chance to just put him down, he surrendered to easy.

  3. SailorCurt – Uh-huh. And I’m sure this lunatic was in possession of a legally-bought and registered firearm. Hell, of the 372 homicides in Philly so far this year, almost all of them were committed using legally owned guns. /snark

    Whew!

  4. I have to wonder if there is a better way to defend someones life from a scum-bag other than using your body as a bullet absorber.

As Pooh bear always says, ” Hmmm, think……think think.

  5. Anyone catch this quote from the story?:

Ford said she dialed 911 on her cell phone as she walked into the station.

“The first operator clicked off and I dialed again and told that operator a guy with a gun was holding me hostage with a mother and baby and threatening to kill us. I told her the name of the gas station and then she said they didn’t have a unit to send.” (end quote)

To be hung up on the first time and told there is no one to help you the second time is insane! Why bother to even have 911 if there are no officers to send?

  6. detroit had had some big issues with the people working their 911 lines. An operator hung up 4 times on a 6 year old who was calling because his mom was not responding–she eventually died.

In michigan we don’t have enough money to keep people incarcerated because the state has too many nanny programs.

  7. There can be no greater argument for universal carry of arms. It doesn’t matter if the shooter was prohibited, because he was a criminal, that’s what criminals do, the break the law. What matters is he was the only one armed. When that situation changed he surrendered his pussy ass.

Wouldn’t it have been better if he had every reason to suspect that everyone around him was armed at the outset? We have proof that his response to that situation is non-violent, don’t we?

Universal non- regulated, non-permitted, non-licensed carry of arms as a normal part of our society would do more to stop this crap than any other dozen things we might try.

The revenue officers were too busy elsewhere to worry about the life of one little girl. Mama wouldn’t have been, bystanders may not have been , the other hostage wouldn’t have been. This wouldn’t have happened in a fully universally armed society.

But, of course, that must be resisted because it would diminish the power of the police to do the bidding of the tax-feeders in office.

  8. “who Parker had dated for six months”

Personally, I’d put some emphasis there as well.

  9. Why Jym? Not arguing, but a lot of women have discovered the man may not be as he represented himself and therefore after sufficient time to discover this on their own, have dumped them. I might understand placing some blame there if she was currently dating him.

  10. You hear of ‘bags like this one getting out after short periods, and then you hear about non-violent drug possessors like Richard Paey who get 25+

There’s some seriously f’d up priorities there

  11. He thinks the woman let her daughter down too, and the daughter is the only victim. I argued with him about that too. We don’t know if she knew about his past. He might have been a bozo, and she might be the kind of woman who stays with a bozo, but she might not have known he was a violent bastard.
