Bloggers running for public office. At some point, we have to stop talking and start doing. While I can promise you that I will never run for public office, my contribution offline is going to be something else, I’m happy to support others if they give it a go. I wish Bruce the best of luck.

The last election, our US Senator (I think it was the Senator, but it might have been the Representative) ran unopposed. I was already pissed because he voted for the bailouts, and I decided that I would run against him if he was unopposed this time around. Common sense has since prevailed – I would be a politically lousy candidate (divorced, gay, and conservative, just to start), and I can’t afford to actually pay for a campaign, anyway. I also don’t want to expose myself or my family to the media attacks that would ensue, and I fear navigating the campaign finance labyrinth.
It’s almost like the current system is designed to discourage people from running for office, or something.
