In New York City, they are celebrating the pigeon:
Animal rights groups will hold a “National Pigeon Day” in New York City next month to rally for the rights of birds and protest hunting activities at places such as the Philadelphia Gun Club in Bensalem.
Animal rights groups said they are rallying against pigeon trafficking to Pennsylvania for the purposes of pigeon shoots, pigeon control methods, including contraceptives and poaching.
I am not personally a fan of pigeon shooting, in that I don’t take part in it. But much like Canadian Geese, pigeons are pests, and can carry disease. I have no problems with effective management techniques to reduce their numbers, even if they are lethal methods.

Jane: We should make sure we have pigeons around as a visual.
John: Where can we find lots of pigeons?
Jane: Central Park, there are lots of pigeons there!

Sportsmen: Do they know that Central Park isn’t in Pennsylvania? Dumbasses.
To the Bitter person, Yes we know Central Park isn’t in Pennsylvania, thanks for the Geography lesson. The Dept. of Environment Preservation (DEP) has found people netting pigeons in NYC Parks and trafficking them to Pennsylvania for shooting. The was an elderly man cried because a pigeon he feed for a length of time was captured and sold to one of these shooting. There is no excuse of cruelty and I wonder about people who believe this is a sport.
