They Don’t Appreciate You, Mike

Mikey, Mikey… why do you keep giving them money? They don’t respect you. They’ll happily bite the hand that feeds them. So why keep feeding them?

Anyway, in other news, my job search is over. I have accepted a position as a DevOps Engineer with a new company, and managed to avoid the unemployment line. So I’m happy about that.. Total time from beginning of search to offer was three weeks. So I’m happy to get this squared away right before we all die of coronavirus.

  1. Congrats on the new job – my son just started a new job (Asst Network Eng) yesterday.

  2. “why do you keep giving them money? They don’t respect you.”

The answer is the same for the left as for the right — no one but no one is really “single issue.” Bloomberg has shit in church with too many left wing pet issues, and even if you can name a handful of personalities whose main public issue is supporting gun control, that doesn’t mean it’s their only issue.

Same thing goes on the right. A candidate could have a pristine record as a gun rights advocate, but if they supported too many leftist poison-pills, even the personalities who style themselves as single-issue specialists on gun rights would find some excuse not to support them.

As for Bloomberg — he probably doesn’t know any other way to get things he wants, than to buy them.

Congratulations on the quick and successful job search!

    1. Were Bloomberg to be elected he would have another way to get what he wants. Arresting and/or shooting people. Starting with us.
Fortunately, you are probably right about the results of his apostasy on pet issues for the Left. There is one that no one mentions though-his support for Israel. The Democrat Party is now deeply anti-Semitic.

      1. “The Democrat Party is now deeply anti-Semitic.”

You could be right. Keep an eye on which of Bernie’s comments about Israel they play on a continuous loop in the corporate media.

      2. “The Democrat Party is now deeply anti-Semitic.”

Then it’s strange that all our Nazis are wearing MAGA hats, don’t you think?

        1. Yes! Because the National SOCIALISTS are on the left, not the right. There are no Nazi’s wearing MAGA hats, despite what the media wants you to believe.

          1. “There are no Nazi’s wearing MAGA hats, despite what the media wants you to believe.”

            That’s bullshit.

Were these the people chanting “Jews will not replace us”? “Fake news” deflections only stretch so far. Believing in gun rights does not obligate anyone to believe fascist bullshit. Some of us think the opposite is true.

            1. Nope not bullshit. You found a few people. Irrelevant. Stop listening to the media.

Believing that there are racist people out there doesn’t obligate you to believe the media who lies about MAGA hats.

              1. “A FEW?”

What I said. Your “fake media” deflections can only be stretched so far, for anyone not living in Dream Land. That graphic was virtually everyone significant among the American Nazis and their close, fascist sympathizing associates. Every one of them has said or written something openly anti-semitic in the past, most of them since 2016, when they first felt empowered.

                1. Yes a few. You’re living in Dream World to think your few examples apply to the entire 60 million people who voted for him. I don’t care about your list.

                  1. It’s funny how pathetically small the “Nazi” movement is in the United States. It’s also funny how much attention that very small group gets.

Yet, despite all that attention (which is provided mostly by the politically “aware”, which probably includes everyone on this blog), I suspect that the vast majority of Americans aren’t even aware of these Nazis, let alone have any idea who they support.

                    1. @alpheus- oh I know. They are so tiny as not to matter. And it would be better not to amplify their power, but we gotta stick with the narrative!

                      @399

It may not apply, but the test is that the Nazis heard what came out of his mouth, and to their last man knew he was their man. Those 60 million people heard the same things, and decided that whatever they thought Trump was going to do for them, made the rest worth ignoring.

That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of it works at all. First, even if they did like what he said, you can’t link 60 million people to what a couple of literally nut jobs did. That’s like saying because Hitler was against smoking, we should all start smoking. Its just dumb.

And maybe they just wanted to jump on this movement to raise their awareness, because they knew the media would love to link Trump to Nazi’s and it has nothing to do with what Trump says..

And Trump isn’t authoritarian at all, so the rest of your Nazi point is worthless.

                  2. “your few examples apply to the entire 60 million people who voted for him”

It may not apply, but the test is that the Nazis heard what came out of his mouth, and to their last man knew he was their man. Those 60 million people heard the same things, and decided that whatever they thought Trump was going to do for them, made the rest worth ignoring. That is exactly what the Germans did with the Nazis in the 1930s. After WWII they made the same argument that you are making. That only a small fraction of the population were actually members of the NSDAP. I hope someday it all proves worth it for you.

                    1. I had to look it up to be sure, but in 1920 the Nazis in Germany had about 60 members, 0.000075 percent of the German population. When Hitler became Chancellor they had about 2.5 percent of the population. When WWII started they had 6.63 percent of the population. At the end of the war they had about 10 percent of the population. What year did they become a significant factor in Germany>

        2. What do “all our Nazis” have to do with the fact that it’s not hard to find examples of Democrats making anti-Semitic statements?

And for a President who’s so anti-Semitic, he does some awfully weird things — such as recognizing Jerusalem as the Capitol of Israel — for an anti-Semite.

I have a fun exercise for you. Ignore the hats they are wearing, and go through the kinds of government policies they want enacted. Then check to see which Party platform best matches their wishes. If you want to report on your results, please provide links to the different platforms you compared.

          1. “Then check to see which Party platform best matches their wishes.”

While I’m doing that, why don’t you do the same thing with Russia, Trump, and his party that you are suggesting I do with Israel?

            1. Except you are not doing that. You are just linking people together because they wear the same hats. That is the lazy and wildly inaccurate way of doing it.

Nazi’s hated Jews, hated gun rights, hated freedom. Trump is the opposite of that.

            2. Just to be clear, I didn’t mean for you to suggest you compare Israel’s platform to the Democratic Party’s. I suggested you do that with the Neonazis of America.

As for Russia, I haven’t done so, but one of the nice posters at Instapundit has done so, and if I recall correctly, more than once as well. I can’t remember everything on that list, nor do I have the energy to look it up right now, but I do remember one thing that Trump would be doing, if he were a friend of Russia: he would ban fracking.

Not only is President Trump not doing the things he should be doing if he were friends with Russia, but do you know who does have Russia-friendly policies? The Democratic Party. Add to this the fact that Obama was caught on video telling a Russian diplomat to let Putin know that he needed to wait for his re-election to have more flexibility, and that Hillary accepted millions in donations from Russia to her charity, and I can’t help but conclude this:

If President Trump were really in the pocket of Putin, he has a very funny way to show it; and if Democrats were really the enemies of Russia they make themselves out to be, they, too, have a funny way of showing that.

  3. Nice! Didn’t realize you were in the DevOps world. I’m the SRE world which has some decent overlap.

  4. “why do you keep giving them money? They don’t respect you. They’ll happily bite the hand that feeds them. So why keep feeding them?”

It just occurred to me, that we could ask the same thing of ourselves vis-a-vis the NRA.

You may want to debate the NRA’s efficacy with regard to defending our gun rights, but that’s a different issue. They’ve pretty plainly shown themselves to be a bunch of opportunistic grifters, and if you believe they “respect” their rank-and-file — well, it’s the same way the scammer on your phone “respects” you for answering their call.

So maybe the relationship of Mikey to the Democrats is similar to our relationship to the NRA; we keep giving them money, no matter what.

    1. I have stopped giving them money until the mess is cleaned up but really who else is there. 2AF has does good work but has a different mission. GOA and NAGR are useless. State associations have some virtue if you happen to be in a state with a good one but have no national presence.

      1. “I have stopped giving them money until the mess is cleaned up but really who else is there.”

Our paradox is, as long as they have the image of being the 800-pound-RKBA-gorilla, nothing good will evolve to replace them. I have theorized for years that the antis love having the NRA in the pro-gun catbird seat. Have you noticed how much propaganda the antis expend on promoting the NRA as their one and only adversary and boogeyman? It may not be the best metaphor, but they have been doing the same thing as when B’r’er Rabbit pleaded “Please don’ t’ro’ me in dat briar patch.” The antis know what a charade the NRA has been, and what they fear is something serious emerging.

GOA and NAGR are both front groups, and so not to be taken at face value on guns. Not that they are “anti”, just that they exist for other purposes.

I agree with you about state groups, but even many of them have hidden agendas. Some are associated with NAGR, though not publicly/legally.

        1. Too dangerous. We are always one generation away from the extinction of freedom.

          1. For a long time I’ve been recommending a somewhat dated book, “They Thought They Were Free: The Germans 1933 – 1945” by Milton Mayer. He spent some years in Germany immediately after WWII, and tells the stories of his “ten (ex)Nazi friends”, “lttle men” who said they neither saw what was coming, recognized it when it got there, nor saw how they contributed to it until it was too late.

            1. Yeah, the coup against Trump has sort of illustrated that. And then there is the plot against Bernie who is not actually outside the Democrat mainstream. They ate perturbed that he is honest about what he is.

            2. “the plot against Bernie who is not actually outside the Democrat mainstream.”

The pertinent quote regarding that, that I heard recently was “For the Establishment, no time is right for a revolution.”

Whether you call it “The Deep State” or just “The Establishment” there is a continuity in policy that is not perturbed by any change in administrations or control of congress. It can be said to have no ideology except power. An example right now is that some elements of foreign policy have remained unchanged for almost 70 years, including into the Trump era. There are examples of the Trump Administration doing exactly the same things that the Truman or Eisenhower administrations did. They are just things that for all practical purposes fall beneath the notice of the average American, or that they are easily deflected from paying attention to.

              1. There would have been more change in the Trump administration were it not for the coup attempt.

                1. “There would have been more change in the Trump administration were it not for the coup attempt.”

We’ll just have to part cordially at, I don’t believe that for a minute.
