He’s Right, You Know

From Joe Huffman:

On the evening of 14 July 2016, a 19 tonne cargo truck was deliberately driven into crowds of people celebrating Bastille Day on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France, resulting in the deaths of 86 people[2] and the injury of 458 others.

Planning matters a lot more than weapon choice. Nearly all mass killers plan their attack, but for some of them mental illness is limiting. The most dangerous killers are the ones who aren’t crazy, as it seems this guy was not.

  1. What plausible set of laws or social controls could have prevented a suicidal millionaire with no criminal history who had months to plot from accomplishing a massacre? That idiot even had a pilots license and two private aircraft.

The thing is, in their heart of hearts the Left really does want the kind of draconian social controls that might plausibly stop someone like the Vegas villain: no riches, no private planes, no private cars, no guns, no freedom of speech, and “block wardens” to keep a wary eye on the proles. A society of Green Socialism enslavement.

Of course such a Leftist Utopia would merely replace private violence with even greater public violence. And even then the level of private violence would probably remain the same as before. We just wouldn’t hear about it anymore from the Ministry of Truth.

    1. Exactly. Dude could’ve just crashed one of his plans loaded with explosives into the concert.

  2. A compulsive gambling millionaire killer with some screws loose who snapped:

That’s $260k he pissed away in two weeks. He could have owned at least two M16s for that price and not had to fool around with bump fire plastic junk. The guy had some serious assets, more than enough to amass a higher powered arsenal (legal or otherwise) than he reportedly had.

Like Sebastian posted, this one is hard to process in so many ways.

  3. Given the resources he had, as bad as it was, this could have been far worse.

Also worth pointing out that at 1-3 million (depending on the source) defensive uses a year there has never been a day where more Americans were killed by guns than saved by them.
