The Senate Votes to Repeal Social Security Gun Ban

Passed by 57 Yeas to 43 Nays. Fortunately there’s no filibuster for this kind of action, so a bare majority is all that was required. It’s worth looking at the no votes, and seeing what that may portend for National Reciprocity or the Hearing Protection Act, should it come before the Senate. The following Senators voted “no” from states that Trump won:

  • Robert Casey (PA)
  • Tammy Baldwin (WI)
  • Claire McCaskill (MO)
  • Gary Peters (MI)
  • Debbie Stabenow (MI)
  • Sherrod Brown (OH)
  • Bill Nelson (FL)

Most of these folks are up in 2018. If we can avoid any “I am not a witch!” moments this election cycle, and not vote for the person Claire McCaskill spends $2 million campaigning for in the Missouri GOP primary, we might have a shot at flipping some of these.

  1. Figures Casey wold vote no…….that whole scheme eliminated due process from citizens.

I hope he is challenged in is primary can’t wait for 2018

  2. An interesting dimension is that the ACLU and a number of presumably “liberal” handicapped-advocacy groups also opposed the Obama ban.

I wonder how they will remember the votes that opposed their position, come election time?

  3. Sheriff Clarke has a PAC forming behind him. Apparently, his gift for being such a strong supporter of Trump will be to have the GOP machine backing his 2018 run against Baldwin. Things will get interesting.

    1. ooooooooohh. That would be so awesome. I might just have to move so that I can vote for him, twice. Maybe three times.

  4. Nelson has mostly gotten lucky. Every year he’s run since 2000, he’s been running in a year that was generally good for democrats. 2006 was their wave year, 2012 was an Obama coattail year.

I think if Trump does ok over the next two years and we run a decent candidate against him, we could get Florida back.

  5. Of these, only OH and MO were strong Trump states. Need 3 more Ds to get universal reciprocity. It is going to take some LBJ type bargaining re infrastructure projects or judges etc to get there.

  6. Brown in Ohio is toast. His Republican challenger is Josh Mandel, a Former Marine, and the state treasurer that took an 8 billion deficit to a 1+ billion surplus in one term. Brown has been skipping votes and is a democrat shill. Mandel has the ground game set up already, and people are signing up in droves to help his campaign. I got tired of Browns constant support of democrat ideals that I signed up as a campaign worker, and there are a lot of us getting ready to bring Brown down. The Trump Train is still running strong in Ohio.

  7. I don’t see any of those 7 changing their votes to keep their seats, but we only need to put pro-2A votes in 3 of those seats to get cloture.

Or attach reciprocity to a must-pass, of course…

Only way to avoid that is to refuse to listen to those making the false claims. GOPe fools will never manage that.
