Insulting the Kazakh Shooting Team

Maria Dmitrienko from Kazakhstan deserves a gold medal in restraint and grace in addition to her gold medal in shooting.

Kazakhstan’s shooting team has been left stunned after a comedy national anthem from the film Borat was played at a medal ceremony at championships in Kuwait instead of the real one. …

The song was produced by UK comedian Sacha Baron Cohen for the film, which shows Kazakhs as backward and bigoted.

The gold medalist is clearly not happy while the song plays, but she puts on a smile as soon as the insulting song is over and poses with her fellow competitors. To add to the injury, they zoomed in on Maria’s face while the lyrics talked about having the cleanest prostitutes in the region.

According to the article, the coach reported that the organizers in Kuwait also got Serbia’s anthem wrong during the medal ceremonies.

  1. Darn, you beat me on posting this one. LOL

I saw it and began posting it a few hours from ago from my phone. But got distracted with some big personal news for the day. And didn’t get it out until just now. Then saw you already had it.

Not that I mind being beat to the post. I just tend to find a lot of the same articles that you guys do. Just don’t want people thinking I’m stealing your content. LOL

(I do always try to Hat Tip when I find content from another blogger.)

  2. When Sacha Cohen finally gets his ass-kicking, it will have been richly earned.

  3. Speaking of Cohen, it seems to me Brits find inordinate humor in ridiculing small nations.

    1. Small country? According to Wikipidia Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world by land area.

    1. Especially if we’re looking at Jeff Cooper’s “To Ride, Shoot Straight, and Tell the Truth”

I don’t know about the telling the truth part of Kazakh, but the guy can clearly shoot straight. And Kazakh has a fair strongly history with horse, even have a ancient horse breed named for it.

“Known for their strength and stamina”

Definitely not the type of guy to mess with IMHO

  4. Small country? According to Wikipidia Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world by land area.

Yeah, but Kazakhstan has a population of 16.6 million, compared to England’s 51.5 million. (Sorry, just felt like being a pain.)
