Claude:

Cruise over to http://www.njcsd.org/ check out the forums, you can read about people's wait times.

There isn't anybody who enforces this 30day law, and it seems, from what I've heard, that if persue legal action, it can take over 3 years to get heard. But I say, if this one gun a month law passes, we should flood the courts.

It also appears that when people get extremely fast turn around times on permits, and such, it's because of connections, or something as simple as taking safety classes. I took a class, and the instructor is well know in JC. Which fortunately for me, means 5 day turn around on permits.

You were lucky. I've known people who have waited a long time for their purchase permits. The police routinely take longer than allowed by statute, and no one seems to want to do anything about it.

I've talked to several people that it took several months for permit approval.
There's a law in IL that says the FOID card is supposed to be processed w.i 30 days. The average time is over 60.

Who enforces that law?

Sebastian, where did you get the "more than a year" figure? I did get a permit in South Brunswick, NJ two years ago in about two weeks. There is also a state law that requires permits are issued or denied within 30 days.

2C:58-3(f). Purchase of firearms

"...the licensing authority who shall investigate the same and, unless good cause for the denial thereof appears, shall grant the permit or the identification card, or both, if application has been made therefor, within 30 days from the date of receipt of the application for residents of this State and within 45 days for nonresident applicants. A permit to purchase a handgun shall be valid for a period of 90 days from the date of issuance and may be renewed by the issuing authority for good cause for an additional 90 days.

Of course, this doesn't change the fact that one gun a month is still a pretty draconian measure.

I contacted the office of my Senator, John Adler, messaged him to vote NO, said I have not and will not be giving my servant, the government, the authority to limit my exercise of rights to ONCE PER MONTH! I also called and thanked Senator Bucco for supporting freedom. You have to step up to the plate and communicate with these people!
