Can We Clear Something Up?

Blackwater is not the company doing blogger outreach.  Para-USA is the company sponsoring our blogger summer camp.  The training is going to be provided by Todd Jarrett, who is a many times over IPSC world champion.  Para is paying Blackwater for the use of their facilities.  That’s the extent of the relationship, despite some folks attempt to read more into it.

  1. Beyond that, even if it were a Blackwater sponsored event, I find the suggestion that such an experience would have any bearing on how we would take Blackwater to task over such a poor decision.

I think the NRA does alot of good too (thus my membership), but I have some very critical things to say about some of their antics too.

I’m excited to be participating in this weekend, but if I think the gun I shoot is crappy* – guess what – that’s what I’m going to say. Free weekend from Para or not.

    *Not that I’m expecting this

  2. My first question is what spurned this bit of legislation? The way it’s written, as applying only to training organizations that have a written contract with the federal government, that applies only to Blackwater, really. It exempts most forms of training including firearms safety training.

  3. As to when the suggestion started, it’s been common since it was announced. Some were saying that our mere presence at the NRA meeting was a sign of selling out for the highest bid. Others got pissy about the contest and were upset they weren’t included even though they didn’t make an effort to attend to the Bash. At this point, it’s annoying, but you should be prepared to be called a paid shill if you say even one remotely positive thing. People have been petty.

  4. Blackwater is the Halliburton of their field. And in that vein, my life was made much more livable through the efforts of Kellog, Brown & Root (a Halliburton subsidiary) during the course of my Navy career.

Para, Blackwater, they’re all on the side of Good. For those who are otherwise opposed? Fuck ’em. They’re either evil or venal, deserving of being ignored either way.

  5. ZOMG! The SNBIs overreact and get their pretty little knickers all bunched up due to items based loosely in reality? Quelle surprise.
