I'm guessing this idea is a non-starter, but it seems that bipods on handguns are legal (or at least S&W thinks so)--could I call this a bipod?

I have heard warnings about having 2 short barrel (or pistol) uppers with only one SBR/pistol lower if you have other rifle lowers, because the extra upper *could* be used to make an unregistered SBR. I don't know that anyone has actually gotten arrested/prosecuted on that, but talk about a legal minefield.

'AOW’s required a $5 tax stamp.'

To buy, it's $5. To make your own it's $200.
