The Libertarian Party has been trying for how many decades to create a viable third party? It won't happen as long as you insist on idealogical purity, barring something like Slavery coming along and ripping the country apart. And IMHO abortion is more likely to be that ripper than gun control. Not that I think this is a Good Thing.

I do believe, though, that we are on the cusp of a major realignment of the political parties - with parts of each coalition bolting their current party for the opposition. But it may take the Baby Boomers becoming inactive in politics first. And while they are, look out...

And I thought it was just me who thought these things when nobody was looking. You know, we have a problem. The R party has left us, not the other way around. We need to start now, finding and building up State candidates who truly believe in a Constitutional Republic. With enough State candidates, we can move on to building up Congressional Candidates, until we have enough to elect a President. This is the only way, I fear, to re-take the country back from the fascists/socialist/communist, or as the like to call them now 'populist' who will, in all likelyhood, control politics for the next 20 years. This is hard, continuous party building to create a viable third party. And this party needs to have guns as a plank, but we also need to develop solutions, and positions to other social problems as well.

I just sent Bush a letter congratulating him for my opting to vote Democrat this time. I told him that the Republicans do not deserve the White House after all the anti-gun stuff he passed, and said that the rumors about him saying the Constitution was just a G.D. piece of paper must be true. I said it's better to have a known enemy in office than to be repeatedly stabbed in the back by someone I thought I could trust.
