Georgia Restaurant Shooting

Restaurants are gun free zones in Georgia, unless you aren’t something interested in following the law. Fortunately for this group of people, there was at least one other person not following the law. That person had a Georgia Firearms License. It’s good to see that the authorities are doing the right thing and not charging him with violating a no-carry zone.

  1. That’s not entirely accurate. Restaurants that sell alcohol for the purpose of consumption are prohibited areas for CCW permit holders to carry their weapons. Not all restaurants. That guy was illegally carrying his weapon in that place (I live near there) but it did save his life, apparently.

  2. Once again we have proof that “gun free zones” don’t work. How much proof do we need before we can get rid of all laws that restrict our right to bear arms just because we walk onto a restaurant property that serves alcohol or onto school grounds or the Post Office.

I can see making it illegal to drink & carry. So if you see someone with a gun at a bar, give him a Breathalyzer or other sobriety test to make sure he isn’t drunk. But when I’m in a restaurant where some people are drinking my need for self defense increases rather than decreases. Having a no gun policy only gives a false sense of security to folks who don’t know better since the bad guys don’t care about any gun free policy at best, and specifically target gun free zones at worst.

  3. I disagree entirely with “don’t drink and carry”. If you are one of those people without enough moral fiber or will to maintain proper decorum when drinking you shouldn’t drink at all. However, if you are one of those people, in all likelihood you will not pay one bit of attention to either admonition. Therefore it behooves those who can maintain control of themselves when having a few drinks to remain armed as a bulwark against those who use drink as an excuse to misbehave.

    And thanks for the link!
