I’m In!

I am now a proud member of the Falls Township Rifle and Pistol Association. Facilities include trap range, with manual and automatic throwers. Indoor 25 yard pistol range. Outdoor 25/50/100/200 yard rifle range. 25 yard plinking range. It’s NRA and CMP affiliated, which is nice.  I’m hoping to get some CMP stuff through the club.

Now the real question is whether to maintain my membership at Classic Pistol, in Southampton. Classic Pistol is, without a doubt, the best indoor range in the area that’s not members only. Full auto is allowed, as well as rifles of any caliber. Pistol lanes are up to 15 yards, rifle up to 25. I think I’ll probably maintain it, and only drop it if I’m not using it enough. Since I can shoot there without being a member, if I don’t go enough, it’s not worth it to maintain the membership.

I’ll extend an open invitation to any of my readers to go shoot as a guest if you’re ever in the area.

  1. Congratulations. I started reading this past week, and agree with most of your postings; glad to see there are reasonable people in this state with regard to the RTKBA. One request, if I may: how about a post (or links) for first time shooters? Yes, there are tons of stuff one can find via a web search, but it would be helpful to have a little guidance in separating the wheat from the chafe.

Though I’m a big advocate of protecting our rights/liberties as US citizens, my only experience with guns outside of paintball has been firing a shotgun a couple times. Now that I’m done with grad school, I’ve got some free time. Do I just call up a shooting range and say, ‘hey, I want to shoot guns,’ and expect to learn everything I need to know, or is there unspoken etiquette? What are typical costs? Help the rest of us looking for a way in! I don’t personally care about hunting or sport shooting (though I have nothing against either), I’m only interested in becoming knowledgeable, skilled and able to defend myself as I feel is my duty as a citizen. So I don’t know what ‘camp’ I would fall under, but I don’t think it really matters in the end.

Anyway, keep up the good work, especially the updates on laws and local/state politics in PA–it’s a much needed resource. And damn you straight to hell the day you give up posting!

  2. Thank you for the kind words. I will write a post or two addressing new shooters. Busy day at work today, so it might have to wait until evening.

  3. There are no indoor ranges in the immediate area, though there are three public ranges in the county. I live up in the mountains, on the Scotia Ridge, and the Scotia Range is less than two miles away. I wish there were a private range here; Scotia is falling apart, full of brass and empty ammo boxes and trash. We’re organizing a group to go out and clean it up, but it’s pretty sad.
